Title: Carbon Fiber Vinyl
Post by: jacob92icu on February 07, 2013, 06:51:08 PM
Has anyone ever used that carbon fiber vinyl tape stuff that you can buy on ebay and wrap to things? If so, does it work good? And who thinks it would work on exaust? Mmmmm sounds nice doesn't it?

If we're thinking of the same stuff, it isn't suitable for things that gets as hot as an exhaust.

I use it all the time in my shop. You should see my pics on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TrickedOut.DodgeRam

I used it to wrap my fairings with. I also wrapped the OEM heat shield on the OEM exhaust. There are threads and pics posted here. Working with vinyl can be difficult just so you know. Good luck

So weed, it would work with the stock exhaust on the gs500? Theres a heat shield involved there even though it doesn't work that well haha.

And just to be sure, this is the stuff I am thinking about:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/24-x24-R-3D-Carbon-Fiber-Vinyl-Film-M-Wrap-Buick-/310333788003?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AGS&hash=item484155cf63&vxp=mtr&_uhb=1

If its not the right stuff, could you find a link for the right stuff?

You could likely use that. I only use 3M DiNoc carbon fibers. I sell it and use a lot of it. I had around $200 in materials when I did my fairings.

Damn, just vinyl for the fairings?? Quite a lot if you ask me. Alright, I think Ill buy it and post pics if I ever work up the courage to do anything with it.

By the way can you post pictures of your carbon fiber exhaust with that stuff?

Well, 3M isn't cheap. But the adhesive on the material is far better than the cheaper materials. On top of that, for exterior usage you need adhesion promoter and edge sealers.

I'm on my mobile right now go look through some of my threads. There are pics of the exhaust.

Thanks for finding and sharing the link. I won't be in front of a computer for a while. I'll working on my exhaust now. My wife's new scooter came in today and I spent a good while putting it together and cleaning it up.

Haha very nice. The wifey always needs something to ride in my opinion. My girlfriend has no interest in learning to ride what so ever, but she likes riding partner. What the heck right?

Anyways, weed, when you gunna have pictures of the wheels and dual exhaust up?!?  :icon_lol:

When I bought my first bike, my wife didnt speak to me for 3 days. Afterwards, anything we spoke about it, it was always "when are you going to sell it"

She never wanted to ride. Never. But now I ride it more and more and if she doesnt come with, then she stays at home. So recently she decided she would get something to ride with me to be with me.

I literally just came in from the shop after taking my exhaust back down. I have to clean the pipes up tomorrow and get them ready for high temp paint. I should have pics tomorrow.

As badly as I want to put the wheels on, I cant yet. HOPEFULLY this weekend I can get all my plastics and misc pieces primered and ready for paint. Im still having problems deciding on what to paint and what to hydro dip

Would you elaborate on edge sealers?  I spent a lot of time tediously cutting a pattern out of this Di-Noc and don't want it peeling off.  It's just on a plate that I made to take the place of the Suzuki badge on the motor case.

3M makes an "edge sealer" specifically for vinyls

My girlfriend left me for 3 months when I bought my GS... But hey she came back and bought a brand new helmet too lol

How hard is it to cover a gas tank in vinyl? I think a carbon tank would be aweseome

Yeah my wife was dead set against it up until recently. She knows I'm going to be out riding a lot in the summer and out of town on the bike with groups so in order for her to tag along, she has to ride. I already have hotel reservations for bike week coming up in May in Panama City Beach. We will both be there. No way she would let be go there without her ;) p

How did you ever get her to not settle for the partner seat but rather her own bike??

I didnt. she decided on her own. I think part of it was because she liked to look of a scooter over a bike. I bought her one of those Italian themed scooters as she thought it was "cute"
