Title: Not sure what to do with my bike....
Post by: pawo on February 08, 2013, 02:11:53 PM
I bought my 05 GS500 3 years ago as my first bike. I am so glad that I went this route to learn how to ride, its been a great experience. However, I feel like it is time for me to upgrade to a 07-09 SV650.

I have some concerns in selling my gs though... basically:

- 05, 11k miles, 1k miles on tires
- had a minor crash last season
- I have GoPro footage of the crash / the bike getting up and riding right after / the thousands of miles ridden after the crash. Idk if its worth anything but I feel it would make a potential buyer feel better knowing what happened.
- scratched up fairing / oil cover / exhaust
- small scratches on tank / plastics by passenger handle
- I'm hoping somebody wants it just to learn on and isnt too concerned about the looks / maybe someone wants it as a project bike
- Idk if its worth fixing up or trying to sell as is. I know the fairings are very hard to find

What do you think a reasonable price would be? I'm in CT by the way.

Here is the best pic I have right now which shows the damage

I think these days you would be hard pressed trying to find a decently ridden GS that has not been down due to the simple fact a lot of people purchase them as their first bike. I know if I was buying I would rather the seller come out and tell me straight up if the bike had been down instead of me looking the bike over and noticing all the rash.

Agreed. Everyone I have seen was missing fairings, gad broken ones or scratched side engine cases

Be honest about it but if nothing is wrong mechanically, then youre golden

I bought it for pretty cheap 3 years ago ($2,100). I would be happy with $1,700 as a minimum but obviously would like as much as I can get. I was thinking of putting  ~ $2,300 as an asking price as everyone always lowballs the original asking price by a couple hundred.

Do you think that's reasonable? What would you put for an initial asking price?

I would at least try and replace the broken indicator. I am sure you could pick one up cheaply off here.
