Post by: Janx101 on February 11, 2013, 04:32:17 AM
Just got a slightly delayed B'day pressie from the Missus! ..

http://www.gogogearla.com/armored-kevlar-hoodie-mens/

Fits great!, .. Feels comfy!! ... Hectic armor in elbows, shoulders and back....

Plan on a post ride report as soon as I can!!!

And with a Black Outer and vivid red air-mesh sewn in liner... I feel a little like this dude!

Last evening, 17-18 deg Cel out, yeah ok not that cool but coolish...rode about 70km after dark... To coffee meet with some mates and back

Bugger all wind leak thru the front surface ... No rippling shudders of material over the arms or shoulder/neck area .... Even at errr... Higher speed ... (My textile jacket often gets slight shudders in the neck shoulder area if I ride above 120 fps ... (Work it out  8) )

No ride up of jacket at belt line, no thwapping around of hood down my back that I noticed...

All very comfortable...

I should mention if you haven't read the blurb on these... The arms and back area also have Kevlar 'terry towelling' material lining them ... The back armour pad foam bit feels quite thick if you pinch on it .... The jacket when you pick it up is surprisingly heavy ... For a hoodie ... But while wearing it I haven't thought OMG this is dragging at/on me.... Feels rather protective actually ... Which I suppose is the idea.

Will have to update again as the weather cools more....  :thumb:

120fps...so just over 80mph/128kph. haha.

Sounds nice i may consider one of these.

So were you cold wearing it?
Title: Re: GoGoGear Armored Hoodie
Post by: Janx101 on February 12, 2013, 08:26:04 PM
not cold last night wearing it... very comfy .. it cut the cool air out but also i didnt feel like i had a big winter jacket on making me too warm..  apart from the extra weight of it you would think you were wearing just a good brand/quality hoodie

it also has 4" zippers down the seam about rib level under arms to vent heat .. and little velcro close 'waterproof' pocket inside right chest area

i've been impressed with every new bit of gear i get .. but this one is ultra kewl!! .. and armour is pretty much un-noticed by others unless the bump you walking or mate slaps your back kinda thing... I can see this kinda thing becoming popular with "Gangstas" too ...

the 120fps thing... thats just what i usually notice my textile jacket starting to ripple at.. last week at 180fps it was fair snapping like a sail in some spots!! .. but i need that bigger size jacket to contain my gut... i got the rear zipper connector to pants on it also... before that attachment the jacket was snapping so much above legal speed that i was getting blurred vision .. really!

so i guess the ongoing tests will be maybe a proper speed run 180fps... and again... just waiting till the weather cools.... got a good thermal skivvy top that i plan on layering underneath also... i am a fan of good wind/cold protection.  :thumb:

whoever gets one... tell me it isnt comfy!! ... I DARES YA!!  :D ... and their sizing chart is good ... my 315lbs/135kg , 46"/117cm waist, 48"/122 chest measurements fit very nicely in their 3XL size .. with some room.. i'm gonna get one of the mates who is ... more than me... to try it on too... just for a upper limit comfort test ... cos 3XL is the largest they currently advertise.  :)

Well, I was thinking of getting my girlfriend one. I bought her a mesh jacket but she hates it cause its bright red haha. I wanted her to be safe, shame on me but she really wants something low profile and that will keep her warm cause its like 30 degrees here atm which is really unusual for arizona. The mesh one she has now just lets to much air in and she freezes on the back.

Post by: Janx101 on February 13, 2013, 02:46:20 AM
Yeah .. I got a mesh .. Or at least summer aero type jacket too ... I would have been able to handle the ride with that on ... But it woulda been chilly with wind factor...

Err... Thinking... It was 17-18 deg Celsius .. With no actual wind ... But I would estimate it felt like 24-25 deg Celsius in the hoodie... And I was travelling above 100kph .... You can do the conversions eh! ;)

That might not seem like that great .. But take the comparative no wind to riding speed into account too!

If I had of been taking the twistie road around the lake on the way home.... Which I can never resist 'attacking' .. I probably could have raised a very slight sweat  :thumb:

Have you done any actual measured tests of temps inside & out of the hoodie? I see lots of estimated numbers, but nothing factual to back them up. Also, given that you're an Aussie, aren't your inches different than normal USofA inches?

This hoodie seems expensive, too. Why should I spend $130 on a hoodie? I mean, I can go down to wally-world and get a hoodie for $5...$10 if I splurge. Could you provide some statistics that prove that kevlar is a viable source of protection in a motorcycle crash?

Yep ... Stuck my ungloved hand out in the night air... It was coolish! ... Put my hand inside the lapel area of hoodie .. It was warmer!

Yeah Aussie inches .. Much BIGGER than USA inches ... When we say 12"! Baby! .. We really mean it!
Apart from the inch thing ... We also moved into this century waaaaay back in last century .. And went metric!!

You don't have to SPEND 130 on this hoodie ... Wait till one of the local Gangsta's rips one off from a store.... Then cold-chicken him with a 2x4 of swamp oak in the alley!! ... That way you be getting a nice hoodie and also fighting crime by getting Gangsta's off the street! ... The key to this idea is that while the jacket part itself is armored and kevlared ... The hood isn't!! it's just a hood! .. And we all know that the Gangsta's be pullin da hood up on the getaway!! .. So just hit the gangsta on the head!!

And to make things better! ... You can then put a badge on the jacket! ... Yo' Homies! I rolled a Crip for this Jacket! ..

Finally... Statistics on Kevlar... Righto! ... Cops wear Kevlar vests, Kevlar vests stop bullets, Cops also ride motorcycles, A Bullet travels much much faster than the road when it hits you...... So ... This Kevlar Lined Hoodie will save you in a crash! ... Unless you forget to wear it! .... See statementistics is eeeeezy!  :icon_twisted: :flipoff: O0

So... it contains illegal gravel does it? Then we want photographic proof. We want the jacket sent to use so we can do a CSI type analyses on it. We'll send in Sherlock Holmes - we have him on ice just for such occasions - and then and then. Yes, we need lab animals with thermometers to test the wind chill claims. And if you can supply some of those special spark plugs too, that will be about right. Shoria batteries I hear you say? Yes we need one wrapped in said hoodie. Oh, and a bottle of Mobile 1 racing 4t oil as well. In addition, a few gallons of standard and premium gas to help us test all parameters should be about it.

What we'll do it hook the whole thing up to our multi meter - we don't have one, can you send one too - and see if the crush washers on the exhaust bearings are correct. But only after we have used a micro torque wrench to tighten and then break our oil filter cover nuts.

ill have to get one of these soon for the goped gta42 ( trail ripper) soon as i get her ready, and finished will be doing a speed run. now does this feel as though one has a monkey on his or her back? my joe rocket textile felt like this. is this heavy, or can it be worn after one gets to his/her destination?

the back armor is reasonably thick .. and you do notice it at first ... but its just there.. not uncomfortable... i spend an hour sitting at the coffee shop meet and it didnt bug me at all ..

when you pick the hoodie up it feels heavy! .. but wearing it is just like a good thick jumper.. i know what you mean with the textile jackets.. but this is a slightly baggy hoodie... its different with armor but you just dont really worry on it.

i reckon you could wear it pretty much anywhere if its a casual hoodie wearing situation... even a night club... although the bouncers might get a little excited having armored clientele onsite!!

if i can coin a phrase .. "She might be Heavy and a bit Baggy, but a Hug From your Nanna is Always Great!" .. its like Nanna's Hugs!  :D

..... and Mister ... how in hell did you get to Illegal Gravel?  :icon_lol:

Until I see actual statistics, I'm not convinced that this one is, either.

If you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I've got spare time. I can also slap a sticker on it that says my dump is armored. Does that mean I'm going to form it into a hoodie and wear it while riding? Nope. Need to see proof that it works.  :icon_razz:

Tell ya what Janx, send it to me and I will give it a thorough review  :)

I actually was looking at the armored hoodies last night when I was at CycleGear. They were on a super sale for $40 bucks I think..
http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/Armored_Motorcycle_Hoody/web1011730
They did have Kevlar on the elbows and shoulders but not on the back..
I tried it on and it fit well (2X) but until you are at speed with it on who knows. Construction and quality seems pretty good for a cheaper brand..

sounds like a Jack Black line... would say Year One .. but i'm not familiar enough with the movie..

... but.. through the red mesh type lining material... can see the kevlar material.... can feel the DD armor pads... dont reckon they use pretend stuff.... too much risk of liability.... so its armored! as much as a 'normal' riding jacket of this kind ever is...  ;) :flipoff: :thumb:

similar style but different brand... reckon it'd be good too... but the one i have .. i CAN see the yellow Kevlar fuzzy stuff under the mesh lining in the back panel too, full length now that i look at it  :D

This arvo run, 25-27C in the sun, maybe 20 in the shade of the trees on the local hill rd, put the rib vents open before I started to get the feel of the venting ... Main zipper up about 3/4 level ...Still comfy, sitting at lights in the sun was a little warm with the engine heat rising around me but not sweaty

Had the sun behind my left shoulder on way home and from glances at shadow I realised that the sleeve on shoulder and front edge of hood do thwap around a bit in the wind but I just can't feel it .. Armor foam and Kevlar lining I guess...

Only cruised it today though .... Went out with the intention of going into attack mode but the concentration wasn't up for that ... So accepted it and just rode for the simple fun of a cruise ...

Saw one mate up at the drinks stop ... He was rag on me for no attgatt .. Cos I had a hoodie!! ... I showed him that it was indeed protection... He said really he couldn't tell until right up close.... So... A rider couldn't pick it ... What chance does the general public have? :thumb:

Edit .. Figured out my lack of concentration .... Wasn't sure why I felt unsettled.... Just realised my prescription glasses are still in ute .. (I can still see ok .. It's a very mild script .. But it sharpens the edges of lines etc) ... Oops!

Oh and for the really info anal ... The reported relative humidity for today's temps was 44% ..... And with 20% chance of rain.... Scattered cumulus cloud banks with high cirrus over that ..

Personal hydration at the drinks stop was Mango and Pineapple Iced Tea ..

Helmet visor opened to the second click up from full closed...

Fully lined Kevlar jeans in full black also..... Washed ..... Errr... 4 rides ago? ... Lol

Mesh gloves by RJays...

Blue undies ..

Grey cotton t shirt under the hoodie ...

Wind from the south east at less than 5 knots..

..... All of which don't really matter... I'm just reporting what I feel and think about the hoodie... Horrifying ain't it!! ... And will report more as I find better extremes of warm and cold weather...

Hoping to not test the abrasion resistance... Any requests of this nature will referred back to the questioner .. You drop it on purpose and slide for your testing gratification!!

Got mine today.
Nice for to the store and back.
Not enough for serious riding - twisties, highway, long distance.

Being a soft hoodie, the sleeves and stuff can move around - unlike a stiff leather jacket.

Adidasguy neither approves or disapproves of this item. Adidasguy rates this with a "meh".

Fair enough.... I haven't had a leather riding jacket.. Only my armor textile ones ... So compared to them it's good for comfort...

For weather over here it's possibly a bit more suited for cruising through a larger part of the year...

Would I go to the drags or trackdays and race in it? ... Naah prolly not... Would get a leather jacket ... But yeah .. For cruising around town and not being so obvious in a bike jacket... I like it still

You wouldn't be allowed on the track in a hoodie. Leathers only.

Would I go to the drags or trackdays and race in it? ... Naah prolly not... Would get a leather jacket ... But yeah .. For cruising around town and not being so obvious in a bike jacket... I like it still
You wouldn't be allowed on the track in a hoodie. Leathers only.

Yeah fair enough on that too I guess...

Not positive... But I think eastern creek dragway requires you to have leathers only if you will likely run sub 10's ... But you do have to wear some approved form of protective full arm and leg gear otherwise.. That's drags though ... Wed night casual style of thing
