Title: 2006 GS500F petcock switch replacement
Post by: cpaiin on February 22, 2013, 03:23:47 PM
So I have a 2006 GS500F that seems to be leaking fuel out of the petcock. I was hoping that it was a bad hose clamp but upon replacing those, the leaking still occurs. From what I see, its coming from the switch portion of the petcock (not the part connected to the fuel tank).  I assume the gas is leaking from the gasket area. When the bike is running, it doesn't seem to leak. Since I mostly only ride once a week, I usually turn off the the fuel from the petcock attached to the fuel tank which has stopped the leaking.  Does anyone know of a replacement petcock that I can buy or a rebuild kit that can replace the gaskets?  From a motorcycle store near where I live, I can purchase a whole new system that comes directly from Suzuki for over $100. I'm hoping I can find something cheaper than this, possibly just a rebuild kit to replace those gaskets. Let me know if you have any suggestions if something else is actually causing this leak, or if you know of a place/online store to order a replacement.
Thanks!

Cheaper yet, just gotta get the old hoses off.

I can check my parts drawers. Should be  a few in them.

While you're at it, consider replacing fuel lines with some fresh, soft tygon line. I use the gray MotionProstuff.
Whatever you use, make it a few inches longer from the tank to the frame petcock. You will appreciate the few extra inches when you have to take things off.

(So I don't need to get one from my parts drawer?)

Highly recommend the 1/4" Tygon 4040-a tubing. Very flexible, fits snugly (I don't have any hose clamps on my tank petcock or on the carbs, leak free). Think you might only need 5 ft, but I'd get 10 just to be conservative. Best price you'll find on it here:

Very fast shipping too.

Anyone still have one of these for sale? I need one for an 04. I'd much rather buy from one of you than a random on ebay.

You want a 04+ petcock? I have one I can sell you. It looks brand new to me, but I never actually installed it to test.

How about $35 shipped? PM me for payment details (I do paypal).
