Ok so i need to clean and rebuild my carbs. The only question is whether to have a shop dip the carb or try it myself?
I want to do everything once, so a total clean and rebuild seems to get everything out the way. So heres the big question to help me decide which way to go. What do shops use to dip the carbs? Is it an acid or chemical i can get myself to do?
Yes i know theres carb cleaner, i just want to bee sure all those passages are clean.
Thanks for any help.
Depends on the shop.
Some use berrymans, others just use carb cleaner.
The good ones use ultrasonic cleaners.
Theres a couple dealers around here, i havnt gone around to them quite yet so im not sure who uses what :icon_neutral:
Are either of the 2 you said something i can get? And where?
I bought an ultrasonic cleaner just for that purpose. 6 months later it is still in the box. Hopefully when weather gets warmer or I clean the basement I'll put it to use.
Where did you get that?
I went at my carbs already getting what i can but she seems starved for gas which is why i plan to get it totally out of the way.
And i know how you feel with weather. My bikes in my buddys storage unit, aka the shop. But here in Pennsylvania we got bitter cold days and winds.
I ultrasonic'd twisted's jets yesterday they came out looking brand new
I have a big parts washer and in it is mineral spirits. I use it to clean various parts, strip paint or oil and more. I also use it to clean my paint guns although I use fresh mineral spirits each time for those. I just bought another 5 gallon drum last week and it was $50
I know some people like to use paint thinner but it isn't as strong as mineral spirits
