Title: WTB : Set of Camshafts
Post by: OrTahor on March 02, 2013, 01:12:09 PM
Hello community. Looking for a pair of camshafts (intake/exhaust), shipped to KY. Anyone can help?

You should specify what year the head is. That makes a difference with what cams would fit properly.
I have an older head I think I will scrap because the cam journal bolts were helicoiled and that stuff doesn't care for a bolt to be removed.

Right, sorry for that.
Need it for a 1994 motor. However, can anyone chime in on backwards compatability on the newer style cams (with the spring washers to avoid the annoying knocking due to freeplay)? Ill UTFSE in the meantime.

I'm sure I have a set. What's wrong with yours?

Nothing wrong with mine. Looking to get a spare set to ship to megacyclecams for a more aggressive profile.

Mine has a small chip on one tooth of the spiral tach gear. Looking at the tach part that is inserted into the head that drives the tach cable, it looks OK with only minor sign of excessive wear. So I am guessing it was shipped in the head for quite a long time.
Free for postage if you want them.

You said you're going electronic tach, so that gear then won't touch anything. I'll post a pic in a while.

Here is the chip. I think these will be fine for you. I believe it is an 89 head, but is the same as all older ones that do not have the spring washer. That slight bit of surface rust you can not feel so it is just surface stuff. They look good to use.

I think Ill take them. Im just pondering if im going to spend ~300 US$ on reprofiling, maybe I should get pristine cams? Any one of the GS gurus round here can chime in for a second opinion?

These are really good. Only that chip on the gear. I should have wiped off that surface stuff with my thumb.
They were never out of the head and laying around. Always in the head (for maybe 5 years) sitting on someones workshop on the motor.
Here's a more complete picture. If you decide you don't want them, that's OK.
(Ignore the wrong cam cap in that location as they were just set there so I don't lose them. Never was run with them wrong and I never ran the engine, just taking it apart to part out.)

OK. probably about $25 postage to anywhere in the US. Maybe less. We can work it out in trade for handle bar parts and fork caps.
