Title: My '92 track bike
Post by: motoarch on March 02, 2013, 06:20:12 PM
Been prepairing my bike for the up coming track season and made some changes today.  I got a new motor in it today and added a Honda RS250 race tail.  I also added a Buell Lighting wind screen to the front for a number plate.  I'll paint the tail next weekend.

Bikes fitted pretty well.  Woodcraft 3 part clip-ons and rear-sets.  The front forks have emulators and the springs are set for my weight with gear and a beefed up brace.  The rear is a custom built Works shock add I recently added a Katana rear wheel and Pirelli race slicks.

Id like to swap out the stock pipe for something else but I dont really wana throw too much more money at it so we'll see.

Any details on the RS250 tail? How straightforward was the install?

I bought it from air tech and it took about a month to fabricate.  As for install its not bad.   First you need to shorten the sub frame then remove the upper ears from the front of the tail section.   Then I just used zip ties from there to attach it to the frame.  It fits really well after that.

The seat bump in the back fits tight against the sub- frame cross bar so it pretty secure and the width is just right for the sub frame.

Ill post up some more detailed pics later and maybe some of this will make more sence.

See how it's notched around the tank bolt.  This is the only place you need to modify the tail.

I cut the frame here and now the hump presses against the cross member.

Some electronics will need to be relocated from this location.

All in all not hard.  Fit and finish could be better but ill deal with that when I paint it.  Air tech also sells seat foam.  Ill add it after paint.

got it from here for about $230.  I still need to clean it up a bit but I was just happy to get it fitted and mounted for the time being.
you can see from this pic the tab that needed to be removed for fitting

I hoping to paint the bike this weekend if the weather clears up.  We just got a lot of snow this morning and rain latter.

Nice choice of color. What did you use? What will use for clear?
I just finished painting my GSX-R (gloss black, white & safety orange). It was a lot of fun doing that. Assembling it next week.

I used plasti dip if you can believe it.  I wouldn't do it to my street bike but on my track bike it's fast and easy.  I will be clearing it.

Wow! Big improvements since the last time I saw it. I like the color choice, especially the blue Suzuki logo on the tail. Keep it up!

Hey motarch,

Where did you get your carbon fiber fly screen? Looking pretty awesome.

It's from a Buell Lighting.  I picked it up a few years ago on ebay.  I was going to do a plain # plate and found it buried under some junk in my garage and threw it on for the hell of it.  It looks pretty decent.  I wanted to strip it like the rest of the bike but ran out of silver vinyl.

Very nice, how much did it cost? And how simple was the install?

I don't remember the cost.  I found one online new for 160 but that's rediculous.  I don't think I paid more 50.  For install I used an L shaped bracket bolted to the head light ears, so very simple.
