Just in a turn lane all by myself, other lanes had traffic backed up. Out of nowhere, some idiot pulls out in front of me, I notice it and try to brake to avoid running in to him at 40mph. Too much brake, lock up one of the tires and lowside on the left side.
The guy stops and put on his flashers. Gets out and asks if I'm okay. Say yes, do you have insurance. He said yes. Tell him to go a little bit down to a Jiffy Lube so we can get out of the road. Trade information. Just got off the phone with insurace. My poor bike!!
Nothing broken on me, just some rashes and scratches.
I'll post some pictures in a few minutes. I was able to ride the bike home a good 15 miles. Typical GS, started right back up. :)
God only knows what the insurance is going to do.
Nooo! Extremely glad to hear you're alright, especially at 40 mph, that's pretty quick to go skin boarding

Thanks, I just got the clip-ons bars I ordered from another member of the board too. :( It sucked, I never again want to go skin boarding.
I have thankfully only ever skin boarded over the handlebars of a bicycle at about 20mph... Enough to know I never want to do it again!
Did you just bend the bar or the whole top plate to the clips?

I didn't even get to put them on! Lol. I just hope insurance doesn't total my bike and that my premium doesn't go up.
Get the pics up!
Glad you are ok :thumb:
sorry to hear about it, good thing the guy didn't take off.
Glad you're okay.
Good to hear you where ok!
You should file on his insurance... Did you hit him?
Glad you are ok. Certainly a shaky experience.

It got dark pretty quick. Soon though.
Oh no! Happy to hear you are OK! You might be a bit sore the next few days due to whiplash, and/or stiffing up your body just before the fall.
How is your bike?
Thanks.
Tank has two dents, one small and one pretty big. Engine took damage to the side cover. Handlebars bent. Gauge cluster is messed up. Tail plastics are scuffed.
Glad to hear you're ok.
Hope the insurance stuff turns out for the best too...

Thanks. He should be at fault, but with my lack of evidence and the fact that I was behind him gives me a feeling insurance is gonna be tricky.
Karma b/c you need it, Zethioth.

uh, just replace the parts yourself ? if you can ride it home, it can't be more than $200 with gstwins connections ?
glad you're ok, a lot of drivers wouldn't care to stop.

Not as bad as i thought it would have been, just hate the tank was dented. I would rather damage the plastic all day then put a dent in a tank. Speedo still work? If so maybe adidasguy as a parts one you can get the glass etc off of.

Yah lol Speedo still works. Isn't it illegal to change a speedo due to the fact it has the bikes mileage on it? Kind've stupid question because I've seen a lot of aftermarket gauges with 0 miles on them and it makes me turn my head. :dunno_black:
The tank makes me mad too. Just got off the phone with a State Farm claims person or w/e he's called. Nice guy, gave me some good tips. Now we wait for someone to actually come out and look at the bike.
Dammit! Lots of superficial damage, and I totally agree with you on the tank. Its all repairable and you are ok which is the main thing. :thumb:
I don't have tail plastics (well, maybe 'cause somewhere I have a couple sets I was holding for a 2001 build) but probably have most other stuff.
Make list.
I give you best price.
I have turn signal for best price.
I have gauge bracket for best price.
I have speedo (probably) for best price. You buy now.
I give best price.
Oh, I have whole lotta snickers bar. Best price!
Speedos can be changed. It happens they break. Simply log the mileage of the old one and the mileage of the replacement. Then people will know mileage.
Bikes here after a few years are mileage exempt. Not sure how old they have to be for that to kick in. Titles here have place to indicate mileage is unknown or approximate. The code is A=actual, E=exempt and not sure for "unsure", probably U=Unknown.
It is not really an issue. If you worry, photograph both speedos together when you change it out.
Here you go - from Washington. Odometer disclosure from every state. So you have a disclosure statement when transferring title of mileage must be reported.
http://www.dmv.org/odometer-disclosure-statement.php#tz_WA
Here it is: California odometer disclosure
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/reg/odometer.htm
"Not Actual Mileage—the odometer is broken or has been replaced, or the current owner is unsure of the true mileage. "
There it is: not a problem at all.

the only thing i'd worry about is the red dust on your swingarm. no way to know if it's from the red paint on the chain, or a scary chain that's worn out from here.
DAMN ! YOU SMACKED YOUR GAUGES UP !!!! you're a lucky dude to not get smashed up if the gauges took a beating.
count your stars homie :)

wait wait wait! I need to re-do my order to include snickers, i was not informed of this! :woohoo:
On topic i say probably 50/50 due to the nature of it if the guy claims something else happened. Then it becomes his word vs yours and most of the time the 2 insurance company just go 50/50(ask me how i know...). Hopefully the guy will be honest and take blame though.

No fair thread jacking!
Your order ship today. You place more order. You repeat customer, I give special price .
All things considered, that damage ain't bad at all! Just the tank :/
I stopped by the Jiffy Lube today (very close to the accident location and where I told the other driver to meet me so we could get out of the street) and asked if anyone saw what happened. Bingo, I have a witness who was operating one of the bays facing my direction.
Any updates?

My insurance called me and I gave them my story of what happened, told them I believed the other driver was at fault. I am waiting for a call to set up a date and time for my insurance to come inspect my bike and give me a quote.
The other guys insurance contacted me, got my story, and a few hours later, got a phone call for them to come inspect my bike for a quote.
I really hope two things.
1. I am not considered at fault for some reason. Many people tell me that they could claim I wasn't in control of the bike yada yada. I also don't have to deal with raised insurance costs.
2. The bike get's to be fixed and not deemed "total loss". Wondering if I should keep the bike if this happens. I know you guys like parts.
We don't see it as a total loss. They might due to cost of parts.
If so, then take the money. Buy it back (If you can't then have a friend buy it).
If you can clear a salvage title, then fix it up. If not, some of us buy parts. Not sure who, but there are a few parts whores here.
Another possibility: if they want to say totalled, explain that you can fix it and the damage is only cosmetic. They might be glad to give you less money and not have to deal with a salvage bike. That's what I'd do. Rather than $2500 for a totalled bike, take $700 and buy parts from the parts whores. They might be happy with that - give you less money and not have to deal with it. That's a BIG savings for them.
The state of California does not allow a salvage title to be reversed. Once it's salvaged, it's like that forever.
You speak as if you are not a parts whore yourself! :D
I'm a little confused on your last paragraph. They can give me less money and not have to get it a salvage title?

Yes, Its up to the insurance company to deem it a total lose and they will if they have to pay out more in repairs then bike is worth. However you can offer to take less to keep a clean title. They would be more then happy to pay out a few hundreds then a few thousands. after all your going to pay back a few hundo's in a few months to them.
Right. Take less. Keep the bike with clean title. We can get you parts to fix it up.
In Washington, we can reverse a salvage title with an inspection.

I never knew that! Good to know. Adds another option. But I can get lowballed...
Wish California allowed that. It would open up a few jobs. :icon_lol:

1 why are you involving insurance, at all ?
2 if you didn't strike the other vehicle, it is your fault for loosing control.
3 the only way this will effect any records (which seems to be your concern, why Idont know) is -if- you involve insurance....
so fix the bike for $200 and ride on ?

1. I believe he is at fault. He reported it also anyways.
2. If I would've hit him it is very possible I could've been hurt way beyond what I have now.
3. I was debating calling them, but after sharing my story with friends and family they all told me it couldn't of possibly been my fault. I'm very young, I had no idea people blow off insurance all the time. :D
I sure hope it's only going to be $200
UPDATE:
Just listened to my voicemail, the other guys insurance is accepting responsibility! My witness just told me they contacted him and he told them exactly what he saw. Phew, you guys had me worried.
Bad news is that they deemed the bike a total loss. Since we can't clear salvage titles here in Cali, I think I will just buy the bike, look for another better condition GS and swap any parts I see fit.
Still waiting to see the figures though. Hopefully they don't want to much to buy the bike back.
Maybe you can't clear a salvage title, but you CAN buy a frame with a clean title! I have done that from a California bike breaker. It was like $200 plus shipping.
Do that. Move the good parts. Buy what is busted. Build a new bike!
You don't care what year unless you want the "F" fairing. I put a 2006 engine in Phenix with a 1993 frame.
I got parts. I give you best price!

The is what was done to my 06, I was told the title was all messed up after he bought it and he just bought new frame and transferred everything over.
