Somehow or another I ended up with what's called a Peritonsillar Abscess. It is/was pretty bad - on Sunday morning I was taken to an urgent care doctor due to being in tear-inducing pain and extreme dysphagia (inability to swallow). My throat had swollen almost completely shut.

Clinic said they could cut it out when we called them. Got there...said they couldn't handle it. f%$k all on that. Thankfully they were nice enough to give me 2/3 the shots for free. Steroid, NSAID, and antibiotic. Biggest thing was they also gave me some prescriptions - lortab, antibiotic, and steroids. Unfortunately, it's not looking like that will be enough to cure it so I'm going to have to have it cut out.
Worst part is...I have no insurance so...it's really not going to be cheap. I was able to find a doctor who would do it for considerably less than a trip to an emergency room, and it included a follow-up visit.
I'm a bit scared...I've never had any kind of surgery before except for some ingrown toenail stuff and dental procedures.
Take a swig of Everclear grain alcohol (190proof). It's a scalpel in a bottle.
Exactly what is the problem you have if you don't mind me asking. Abases tooth?
i know the not having insurance bit. most of the time dental visits end up being less scary than first thought. odds are he/she will knock you out for this. ( id say get somneone to bring you/take you home. )best of luck :)

ive done that before. (everclear lol) that shaZam! does numb it. BUUUUT it would render me otherwise useless. i deal with significant pain during day. tooth pain OTOH sucks a big one. ive been there in times past
I've had several major and minor surgeries over the years. It can be a bit scary but you should be fine and feel better once it's taken care of. Best wishes for a speedy recovery :thumb:

Peritonsillar abscess. I think I had strep throat and it caused the tissue in the back of my throat to abscess.

Nothing has really made it go away completely. The shots I got helped but...it's still there and I'm in a lot of pain again as of right now.
Thanks guys. :)

Well...I'm in a lot more pain now. It just keeps getting worse.
My ear feels like it has a knife stuck in it now...which is new but not surprising.

damn i thought my days sucked. :o
ouch, hope you get this all worked out and feeling better!
Got to see the doc today instead. Employer wasn't having me miss work - basically told me if I didn't show up they were going to let me go. f%$king ridiculous.
In other news, new doctor didn't think I needed surgery so I guess I dodged that bullet. Gave me more pain meds and more antibiotics. I go back on Friday for a follow-up.
what a d%@k boss, well you seem to be ok so thats great
Yeah...I just hope it's not all for naught.
I equate it to knowing a huge fight is coming, and spending a lot of time worrying about it and gearing up...then when I finally got there, my opponent didn't show. Very frustrating and upsetting I guess, because I was so ready for it to just be over and done with.

true. id say give it a bit of time to see if the current course of action will take care of it. having battles similar to this myself. i know the feeling all too well :technical:

Yeah...it's really a bummer man. :/ I feel for you.
Went to the ENT again yesterday. It's pretty much all but cleared up. On Thursday I only had to take the pain meds once, and yesterday I didn't need them at all.
I'm still taking the antibiotics so it should be gone in another week.
It's a relief to not have to have surgery (financially mostly).
got my gabapentin increased from 900mg per day to 1800. helps the burning and invisible feet somewhat. leg pain however sucks. waiting on labs to come back. liver, kidneys, cbc etc. stab lab got me good lmao. isnt it fun, waiting for results whatever they may be? C'est la vie :bs:
