Title: Anyone have experience with Teknic gear?
Post by: gitarman on January 07, 2004, 02:53:58 PM
Alright so I need a leather jacket for this summer and I started research on the 'net and saw www.newenough.com has a good sale on their Teknic Lightning jackets. I went to 5 leather/bike shops today only to see Joe Rocket gear....and more Joe Rocket gear...and a lil Alpinestar to mix things up. (There that was only a small rant) So does anyone have experience with Teknic gear? Are there any other suggestions for a black non-cruiser style jacket for a lanky 6' 3" guy?

Personally I really like Teknic stuff... been wearing a Teknic jacket in some form or another for about 8 years now.  In the past I've used Teknic gloves, full leathers, jackets, and even bike luggage.  Really nice stuff.  I like them because in addition to the fancy stuff they also sell really low-profile gear like the Thunder and Lightening jackets... anyway here's a few little reviews...

Sizing is about right - if you don't have a gut, then follow Teknic's sizing guidelines... if you DO have a gut - always get one size bigger than what you actually measure out as... I measured out (according to the Teknic site) at a size 46 jacket... got the 46 - too small... 48 fits perfectly... I'm 6' and 210lbs...

Good gear though...

I have a Teknic textile jacket.  The Interstate model, I believe.  They claim it to be waterproof and it certainly is.  100% and then some.  70MPH in cold, hard rain for nearly 2 hours straight.  I was bone dry from the waist up.  Too bad I didn't have a pair of their pants to go with the jacket.  I had the jacket for a year and a half and it shows no signs of wear.  I love it.

I've got a Teknic Lightning jacket and Violator Pro gloves...
The jacket fits great if you aren't the husky type.  Joe Rocket might be better for that situation.  Did I mention it fits great?  (I've got a size 50 jacket and have a 46 chest, needed it to fit me across the shoulders.  Just so happens once I got the waist cinched a little, everything is snug and not flapping around.  I'm 6'3", 195)  The gloves kick muchly too, though they are a little hardcore!  Two things with the jacket, for some reason mine didn't come with the armor pieces, and the metal zippers have a tendency to jangle around at speed, but that is just nitpicking.

I wear JR pants and have a JR Reactor mesh jacket as well.  Teknic does have a higher quality product I would say.  Go for it!

I have their phoenix or whatever is meant for very hot weather... Hols up really well... I liked it more cos it wasn't some material with holes punched in it... it was woven with the porosity built in... Good idea I thought... and its worked.
Cool.
