First time since I bought the bike. I was warming it up for an afternoon ride on my slightly sloped driveway. Instead of placing the bike so it leaned with the slope on the kickstand, I parked it perpendicular to the street. As I reached for my gloves, the bike rolled forward and fell over. I tried to catch it and only managed to rake my right shin with the rear fairing. The drop put a golf ball sized dent in the tank from, I think from the handlebar hitting it. Mirror didn't break. The tank was full so I had some spillage. Remarkably, the bike was idling on its side for about five seconds before I shut it off and picked it up. I was reluctant to start, backfired loudly once and then cranked up fine. Went for a ride of a mile or so and stopped. I noticed the smell of gas. It was leaking but I couldn't identify the source. On closer inspection, the air box drain hose had come loose so I pushed it back on. Got home and still smelling gas but no visible evidence of leaking. Bike ran fine. I know many people drop their bikes but it just ticks me off that I'm left with a dented tank.http://gstwins.com/gsboard/Smileys/New_Smile/angry.gif
Dont feel bad. I dropped mine once after thinking I put the kickstand down ALL the way but it wasnt. At 400 lbs, once it gets leaning to where it falls, there is not stopping it. Dont hurt yourself trying.
Bad luck man. Sorry to hear. I got off mine, The kickstand was only partially engaged. It went over, I caught it but like weed said, that much weight is hard to stop when your not expecting it. I was able to slow down the fall enough that there was no damage. I got lucky.
If the tank bothers you maybe you could just get a new one?
Consider it initiation. I dropped mine over in my garage as I was walking it in. Lost my balance and over she went!

I did the exact same thing but with some slight scratches on the mirror.
My first drop was when I stooped in a parking space that was slightly wet. Shifted my weight to my right foot to get the kickstand down and my foot just slipped out like I was on ice. There was probably some oil on the pavement.
Both were slow drops.
this morning I had a similar thing, pushed bike onto driveway (very slight slope) like normal, went in side to get ready then CRUNCH, it went down on the left side. Punched indicator through fairing scratched the lower fairing ect was perfect condition before today >:(
I even dropped Suzi - believe it or not!
Fell over twice trying to get her on the center stand (hence I came up with a safer way as in my video).
Once I did what you did. Parked in front of the Bike Cave with her running. Got off to open the door. She rolled forward. FORTUNATELY I had the R&G sliders and she want down slow and easy. No damage at all. She rested on the slider - saving the turn signal from punching through the fairing.
Better to fall over in the driveway than in traffic :icon_lol:
I feel your pain! I've dropped my bike twice sadly. First time in wet grass, extremely slowly, like would have stopped it but I was sliding as we'll really slowly, no damage. Second time was in my buddies driveway, didn't get the kickstand fully down. Slowest fall ever! Luckily I had enough strength to slow the fall so the only casualty was my clutch lever... 2days later!
I have even dropped mine. Within the first month. Thought the stand was all way down at mechanics and down she went. Grabbed the only thing I could which was the clutch lever and promptly snapped it but did save the bike from damage.

I feel your pain, as I'm sure everyone here does. I threw on some brand new carbon fiber end bar mirrors, was pushing the bike to do a u-turn (off the bike walking with it) and didn't realize the bike was leaning so far and down she went. Broke my brand new end bar mirrors...
dents are character ! focus on the ride, not the cosmetics, as no one can see that tiny dent (let alone YOU) on the road anyway.
my gs was on the ground at least 8 times. it didn't care at all. i finally learned tire changes were easier that way as a bonus, and got on with life.
ride more, polish less :)
I appreciate all the support/advice and I will try to ride more and worry less about the undeniable signs of wear and tear.
If it makes you feel better, I have fallen at a stop sign AND a driveway due to my shoelace getting tangled in the shift knob.

Lol I hate to hear that happens to people, but it probably looked pretty funny if it's not you it's happening to!
Back when I was a "squid" at 24 on a GSXR and with shorts and a wife-beater, I was not very bright. A few near-misses and I smartened up. Now it's ATGATT (all the gear all the time).

Yes it has, I'd start a guess how many times I've dropped my bikes contest if I thought I could remember them all. :icon_lol: Lets see, do we just count normal riding incidents, or do we include sitting still on the bike incidents and when the parked bike drops without us even on or near it because we didn't park it as well as we might have, etc?
I dumped mine when, after a ride, I pulled in the driveway and received what turned out to be a rather important text from my wife. Never even put the stand down. Having been distracted by the message in the text, I got off without even thinking about it. Bike started the slow roll to the side. I was able to catch it and ease it down, but down it went. Duh.
