Title: New to the Motorcycle world
Post by: Samanthart10 on March 08, 2013, 04:11:58 AM
Hi everyone, I would just like to introduce myself. My name is Samantha and I just got my very first bike it's a '91 and I just spent all day stripping the old hideous paint job off. Anyone else have the hardest time getting a old paint job off?

It actually was a lot worse than it looks.... It had pink and white pin striping. I'm not a fan of teal at all!

What was wrong with the original paint other than the color? If it was in good condition then you could have painted over it with a sealer and then base coat. Stripping down to the metal means a lot more work. A LOT

Seemed pretty easy for me... Not that I aimed for pretty but still, scuff, alcohol, spray and I was golden. Never bothered to buff or anything though since it was a temp measure

Being a painter by trade, my honest opinion is that a good over the the counter stripper (that works quickly) is a thing of the past (think green) even at work we a are turning more and more to water based paints in the Aerospace Industry (green again) Good thing is it looks like you are winning!  :thumb:

Welcome to the forum!

I ended up using aircraft remover by rustoleum and it worked pretty good, but , my tank had dents in it that I wanted to repair before I repainted it.

I don't see anything blocking off the fuel cap.  :dunno_black: You definitely don't want something like aircraft paint remover to get in there!!

oh I definitely made sure not to get any in the tank. The only thing going in that tank is gasoline and Marvel Mystery oil.
