Title: Will any exhaust can work?
Post by: 500rider on January 07, 2004, 07:33:13 PM
Can you adapt virtually any exhaust can to the GS? :dunno:   The idea being to improve the looks/sound of the GS. :thumb:   I've seen some stock exhausts from GSXR's etc go pretty cheap on eBay.   I was thinking a custom shop might be able to take my stock pipe and adapt a can from another bike.  I know that the GS stock pipe is completely welded to the can. (Why oh why!)

Which would easier to adapt ... bolt-on or slip-on?

I realize that I may have to do some extra tuning of the carbs.

What do you think? 8)

Joris did it, check out:

For the pics.  I plan to do something similar next season with a used Yosh pipe.

If you're interested, I have the can from an '01 R6.  Its aluminum, so good luck with the welding  :P

Stock supersport exhausts are a dime a dozen.  You can't GIVE them away because what's the first thing everybody does when they buy a supersport (after chopping the fender)?  They replace the exhaust with a 400 dollar can.  Next logical step, recoup a little by selling a factory condition exhaust online right?...  :bs:

Vtlion:

I'm thinking the pipe is steel and has some kind of flange (bolt-on) or adapter for the can.  I was thinking you could weld the flange or adapter to the stock GS pipe and then you could fit any bolt-on or slip-on can you want.  I'm not really familiar with how the slip-on type goes on.

I noticed in your signature block is a balanced equation for ... gasoline combustion?  I hated trying to balance organic chemistry equations!! :guns:

A stock exhaust isn't going to do you much good. They are as or more restricted than the GS OEM. You can pull the guts out of them but thats alot of work and you could do the same to the GS one too.

However any 2" opening straight thru race can will fit.

Not real educated on "stoner rock", so no I haven't.  But I'm looking for new stuff to check out.  Thanks for the info.

Go with the flow was the best music vid I've seen in a very long time, and I thought it would make a good SigPic.

Ok, I'm done hijacking the thread now  :)
