Title: 1996 Project Bike
Post by: HPUX1560 on March 14, 2013, 06:12:46 AM
Hi Guys,

Just started breaking down my 1996 Suzuki GS500.

This was a Pennsylvania barn find. ~7400 miles,  Has been sitting for years.  The plan is to take completely apart, clean, fix, replace parts that need it, paint and sell it. Will be adding pics as the bike progresses.

Wow that's a good find! How's the paint now and what do you plan on painting it to?

The paint, well it looks like spray paint and lots of dust trapped in there.  The plan is to paint the tins a matte black (have yet gone to auto paint store to buy).  The frame and wheels will be very similar to the dark grey already on it.  Motor will be painted black engine paint, as well as the exhaust.

Very nice. Did those bar ends come on it also?

you keeping the head lights?  I was thinking of picking up one of those (not a pair) and routing it into my fly screen.  If you interested in unloading one I'll could send you a stock headlight for it.  Or we could work out some other arrangement.
thanks

Nope keeping the double headlight.  I do have the round headlight which I would sell.

Paint looks good, what color is the frame and engine and is it a spray paint or did you use use a spray gun?

All spray paint so far.  Frame is grey hammered metal , rustoleum I think.  Engine is rustoleum high performance. Swingarm is actually a silver used on Corvettes, which is a spray paint as well.

paint is cheap.  as far as for the bike.  let's just say I will not make any money on the deal.  I am a perfectionist and with that comes costs. :thumb:

Looks good for spray paint. I'm about to start disassembling my bike and am looking for ideas on paint for the frame and am debating spray painting it myself or wasting the money and taking it to a painter.

Got the paint today.  Sand blasted the last of the parts to be painted.  Tires to be balanced and mounted this week.  Bike should be ready for Maiden Voyage in 2 Weeks. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Got the bike running yesterday.  Need to fiddle with carbs some more.  All in all very pleased in outcome.  Gonna be a great bike for someone, everything is new or sandblasted and repainted.
