Do all year cylinder heads fit on all year cylinders? I know the tach cable hookup is not there on the newer heads but other than that, are they the same?
A friend is about to buy a head from a 2009 from another member on here and his bike is a 2005 but the motor is pre-2004 (I think) because is doesn't have the oil cooler.
I just need to make sure it will fit and work correctly before we go through with the purchase.
I think so, but let's get more opinions on the matter...
Anyone else? Bump!
I can't speak to the particular matches from one year or another but I know from experience with other bikes that piston and valve heads should be decked where they join when mating swap-outs. The mating surfaces have there own quirks from heat stress and torque that are trued up by decking. It's a process that only machining can do. BoreTech in Cincinnati does it. You're looking at about $100 plus shipping.
All years fit all years.
Differences:
1. Tach cable
2. Later years have a spring washer in the cams to prevent cam noise. This only makes a difference if you try to use the cams fro different heads. Keep everything together and you don't have to worry about it.
3. Some have the PAIR holes open for a PAIR system. You can block off those if you don't have a PAIR system. if you do have a PAIR system and a new head does not have those holes open, simply remove your PAIR system.
Thanks, Adidasguy!
Whats a PAIR system?
Emissions crap found on some of the later models. Blows air into the exhaust to burn off unburnt and partially burnt fuel.
No diff in heads, other then PAIR system, spring washers were added and can be added to any year.
