I know that if you've never been there, you don't know what it is.
Before I had a bike I'd drive by and Thursdays was so scary - bikers, leather, Harleys. Eeeewwww! Only now do I know that Thursdays was $1 taco night when all the bikers from everywhere would congregate at Alki Tavern. It seemed that Wednesdays was Vespa night :icon_eek:
Once I got a bike I went there. My first time was scary. Until I went in. Everyone is so friendly. That's the way Seattle is. We were just rated as one of the most casual dressing cities. We don't care what you wear. And with the bikers, maybe scary at first but here as long as you are on 2 wheels you are family.
With that, Alki Tavern had its last $1 taco night. Sunday it will close forever. CONDOS! There is a filthy surf board hanging from the ceiling. I hope to get it at Saturdays auction for the Bike Cave. That would be cool!
The flag on the ceiling of half the place is not for anything political, it is to keep ceiling stuff from falling on people.
Alki Tavern is a real, true rat hole. A community icon, run down and dumpy. But that is what makes it fun. Nothing intimidating. Lots of character.
In memory of Alki Tavern, here are some photos of tonight's Dollar Taco Night.

damn i want that flag lol
Always sad to see a local hang out and long standing establishment close
That stinks. It happens to everyone. My favorite dive (The Draft House) got bulldozed for condos as well. They had the best wings in town and $5 pitchers. Then last year my 2nd favorite dive (Kclinger's Tavern) closed up without notice. Now I drink alone in my basement bar aptly named BAR.
Bars around here close without warning.
Then 2 months later its something else for a few years.
Then closed again. It's either tax evasion or they pissed off some organization that part of the plea deal is to close.
a major downer it is, when places like that close. does suck i must admit.
sad to see you lose a good old mom and pop style place. have found them to be the best in barber shops, bars and bike shops. support the ones that are left as much as you can.
