Hey guys,
I bought myself a written of 500F 09' the other week, it starts, runs, everything is perfect on it. The bloke who had it previously dropped it on her ass so some fairings are cracked and there is a bit of road rash on the pipe. Being my first bike, im not too concerned, just a bit of TLC and she'll be right.
The problem is since the bike is written off i need to swap the bike to a new frame-ive already bought one. Im off to get the new frame powder coated and i don't want them coating over the VIN.
I was planning on drilling the rivets out so they can coat the whole frame(riveting them back in after!!!) but i was unsure if there is another VIN stamped on the frame?? if so, whats the best way to get around this? (just tape it off for coating-OR WHAT?)
side note- Am i okay to remove VIN in this circumstance or is it strictly illegal in QLD-Australia??
Cheers guys!
VIN is 2 places.
A sticker on the right or left upper frame
Stamped into the steering tube on the right side.
A powder coated that does cars and bikes should be aware of covering them. They have high temp. tape they can put over them.

Hi and welcome. In QLD is is illegal for you to remove or modify the VIN in any way.
When you take it to the powder coaters they will make sure the VIN is left intact and readable if they are professional so you should be fine. It wont be the first one they have done if they are reputable.
Cheers
Cool, thanks guys
Hey guys. My family owns a powder coating and sand blasting shop here in the US. We always make sure to tape off the vin. But we've had guys come to us from other guys saying that not all shops do it that way. So just to be sure make sure to specify to them. And leave a note on the paper work they have you fill out. I'm New to forum so I'm trying to be some what helpful
if they tape off the vin won't you be left with a rectangle of uncoated ugliness?
Pretty much, when I got my frame powder coated they didn't tape it. You could see it feintly if you squinted and looked at it in the right light. I removed my id plate and re riveted it with some gasket goo to stop any water getting in.
A lot of the guys that come through the shop use a clear nail polish. Or try and match to paint to prevent rust.
