Title: WTB end bar weight
Post by: ToneZone on March 20, 2013, 02:51:41 PM
My left side bar end fell off this weekend, anybody have a good source for an OEM bar weight?

I don't have any on my bike at all. Adidas might have some laying around, but other then that why oem?

I am 99% sure I have a spare weight, but you may need the bolt (or bolt + bushing if 01+) to put it on as i'm not sure I have a spare one of them. You can have it for postage.

Old posts indicate an '05.

Therefore, a 50% chance the rubber bushing is still in the bar. If so, there is a nut down in there, too, to remove with a magnet on a wire.

Let PP know. If he doesn't have one, I have a few (but no bushings to spare.)

Yeah there is stuff still in the bar (it's not hollow). I tried to thread a bolt into the hole in the center but I couldn't find one at home that threaded up. I can take a photo when I get home and sorry for cross posting =[

I wont be home until close to midnight (EST) I will let you know what I find once I get there.

What you see is the rubber bushing - not something to thread into. Pull that out. Then reach in with a magnet on a long wire and you'll retrieve the nut.

You will need the bar end, spacer nut and bolt. Big washer optional and needed only for bar ends that are a lead slug with a steel cover. Newer ones ares solid steel.

The assembled bar end is like this:

The bar ends I have are from an 89, so I would assume lead and the washer would be necessary.

Yes. Otherwise the lead squishes because it is soft. I have those r go to honor despot for one.

Well here is the extra I have. It could use a sanding and some paint. I imagine this is the hunk of lead adidas referenced. Took a couple pics for his expertise.

OK. got it with the long screw and spacer nut.
You can pull the rubber from your bars. I can give you another end nut if you can't get it out.
I guess $7 shipped?
The bike cave gets parts cheap from everyone so I just pass it on. I don't make money on them. Extra to fund the bike cave and its unlimited parts supply is always appreciated.

Oh, this is a newer one, all steel. Just a bit of rust on the edge. Easy to clean and hit with a rattle can of black semi gloss.
No lead in case your cats want to chew on it. Though when I was a kid, we had powdery white lead paint on the house and we always tested it to see what it tasted like. I'm fine. (I think? Duh!) Used to stand in the exhaust from  the old Plymouth breathing the leaded white smoke on a cold winter morning before going off to church. It was pretty!

OK I pulled my bar weight from the other side and it was like the first one picture above, compressed rubber with a long screw and a weight.

On the side i lost it looks like one of the metal inserts is stuck in the bar,, I cant get it loose, it almost looks like it's got a little booger of weld or jb

(and yeah $7 is fine, sounds more than fair. I appreciate all the help.)

Squirt some oil in there. Hit it. It should come loose. I have a used bushing if you can't get it out (cost you a dollar!). But you will have to shove yours in to get the new one in! So I think you can get it out with some oil and work. Squirt oil in. Shove in. Pull out. Then clean inside of bar so it will stay in when you piut the new one in.

Check your other one to be sure it is tight. Tighten screw and kind of bang/wiggle it in if it is not all the way in.

Umm thats what mine look like and yes the nut is welded in there. If you start hitting it with a hammer you will damage it.
Both my bikes have that. There are bar end weights that specifically fit that type.
I would say that one of your bars is NOT original.

NO NO NO DO NOT DO THIS
That looks like a factory bar with the bolt welded in see above post
Title: Re: WTB end bar weight
Post by: adidasguy on March 20, 2013, 11:23:03 PM
2004+ they did not do the weld in. They used the rubber bushing.

If it is a weld in, a little oil and tapping won't hurt it.

I recall he has a 2005 bike from his first posting.

Oh, and there is NO WAY you can dislodge the welded in nut if it were there. Took me 30 minutes to grind one out of a clip on bar that had a broken bolt.

Tag on bike indicates made 03/05 and in SPAIN (ok, that is another thread.)

Oh, and "been there. Done that"  :flipoff:

OK - I see in another thread you have 89 clip ons. So all you need is the bar end and the bolt. You do have the welded in thingy so don't do anything. I'll send the bar end and a bolt of the correct length for it.

Now I'm more confused than ever

It's an 05 but it has clip ons, I assume they are 89 clip ons but honestly have no idea. I bought the bike off a guy in the sticks, it could be all kinds of zombied together.

edit: awesome thanks

As I said DO NOT HIT WITH HAMMER as the nut IS welded in as they are stock clip-ons. Adidas was off his game.

No I wasn;t.

2005 bike with stock bars is rubber bushing.

I searched and saw pix with 89's and corrected my post which was at the same time he was posting so he didn't see my edited post.

So NEENER NEENER NEENER! You're just ragging on me so I guess I will not go visit you down there and instead go to Germany or Portugal.

Yes you were!! I did not even look at the age of the bike cause in this case it was irrelevant!! I looked at the photo of the bar and knew straight away it was an oem clip-on bar so neener neener neener back at you.
