My recently ex-fiance has a Hyosung GT650s, and it was pretty zippy and wasn't TOO badly built. Bit rusty on cosmetics and bolts, but good paint job and reasonable fit. Motor pulled quite well.
I had a Hyosung GV250 before I got the GS, and I was happy enough with the bike itself, the mechanics let it down in a big way. That and NO after sales support during warranty (I was told I would have to pay for a replacement ECU after the old one ate itself, also pay for the 12 hours labour diagnosing the problem.)
And 2 buddies of mine have a GT250 and GT250R. They're the older carb versions, so they haven't had the ECU issue that mine did. They're fairly comfortable too, which I found surprising.
I must admit though, Hyosung's quality has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years, compared to when they broke into the market in AU, and some would go so far to say they rival the Jap bikes in terms of build quality and reliability.
I heard somewhere that the 650cc engine in the GT650s, R, and Tourer and GV650/c are based or built from the 650cc V-Twin that Suzuki puts into the SV650. Not sure where the 250cc engine traces it's routes, could be from Suzuki too.
Kinda tall and heavy for a 250 but it has a nice big rear tire. :D

Their ability to copy must be getting better. Call me skeptical, but I am not convinced yet regarding Hyosung.
I think they are decent bikes. I wouldn't mind having one
Think Honda in the 60's and early 70's. They have a long way to go, but in 10 years I bet they will be a legit competitor.
My thoughts exactly John. They are just like any other auto/bike brand to come out of Asia. You wouldn't trust the early one as far as you can throw it but given time they improve greatly. A good recent example would be Hyundai

agreed. like hyundai or kia in cars, at first they were crap. hyundai is now where kia needs to be takes time

once we all have 3d printers we will just buy the schematics and make out own. or create and build whatever kind of motorcycle you want to a frame and motor.

and use mitsubitchi parts. i had several hyundais. a 91 excel. being the worst. hyundai has gotten far better imho. kia is nearly there. suzukis cars , alot of them are crap. ( especially if made by daewoo) there is a reason why daewoo failed in the us, or why yugo did as well. cheap does sell. BUT you cant polisha turd.
