QuoteFlorida study: cars mostly at fault
Ten years of motorcycle crashes were analysed in a major study, which found that 60 per cent of drivers were at fault in collisions involving bikes

According to a report in the Florida-based Sun Sentinel newspaper, researchers have found that in 60 per cent of collisions between cars and bikes, the drivers are at fault.

The paper cites a Florida Department of Transportation study, where 10 years of Florida motorcycle crashes were analysed.

"There's a bias by people driving. They don't expect to see motorcycles," said Chanyoung Lee, a senior researcher at the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research, which was commissioned to produce the study.

The study also found that 34 per cent of motorcycle crashes involved one vehicle, and in severe and fatal motorcycle crashes, 50 per cent of those accidents involved just the motorcycle and no other vehicle.

But in severe and fatal motorcycle crashes involving multiple vehicles, greater blame falls on cars. And most motorcycle crashes involve other vehicles.

These studies don't surprise me. Most cage drivers couldn't give less of a shaZam! if they tried, the only car drivers I know who check and are aware of the fact that motorcycles may be on the road are, in fact, motorcycle riders or spouses/better halves/partners of motorcycle riders.

Some people just don't care enough to look because they know they'll be safe if they DO hit someone on a motorcycle. I was told once by some tool who nearly ran me over at a roundabout (I followed him until he pulled off so I could give him a mouthful, turns out he lived about 3 houses from where I was living at the time,) that "Motorcycles are a stain on the road. Unless it's got 4 or more wheels, it doesn't belong on the road. You shouldn't be on the road because you're all dickheads on those crotchrockets, and none of you care about your own safety, why should I care about it?" He then told me to take my "toy" home to my parents.

Then his car wouldn't start the next day. Shame that...

Being a minority will always have it's disadvantages, but it will always have some very attractive advantages as well.

The fact is, the vast majority of vehicles on America's roadways have 4 or more wheels. As such, the odd bike here and there are a bit of a curiosity to the average driver and they aren't in the forefront of their mind as they drive. The disadvantage of this reality is that they are not accustomed to your presence and therefore may be rather careless.

But go to a country where bikes make up a sizable chunk of the traffic and everything changes.

He lives in the Phillipines, and he is actually a pretty skilled rider... Its just a very different way of traveling there, though it looks pretty dangerous to us.

Mordeth13 is a very popular motorcyclist v-logger, and probably one of the first that became popular...  He has tons of vids out there, and you will see that he is skilled... I wasn't really referring to a particular video to make that conclusion, but rather the many of his that I have seen.  I would agree with you, though, if the video above was the only one of his I was making my conclusion from.

Mordeth is very skilled rider. However his riding is not the subject to this topic.....

I agree operator would take 1 , weather conditions 2, and clueless idiots in cars etc would take 3.(might put this one in second place)

I will add a 4th, college girls flashing you is quite dangers.. no don't ask how i know

Ah, thats sounds more right... its been awhile since I've watched him... but yeah, driving in his area is some of the most hectic stuff I have seen from a rider's standpoint, other than the Russian driving vids lol...

Am I the only one who thinks these motorcycle cam video dudes talk way to much. Get to the point for cryin' out loud. It takes them for ever to tell their story.

#4 reason for motorcycle crashes. Biker trying to do a talk-show while riding.

That's kind of the point of a "motovlog" the're suppose to talk. If they just got right to the point then the video would be a few minuts long. they are trying for 20 minute videos not 3 minutes.

Talking to yourself riding is no more dangerous then waving at passing motorcycles.

Could be... Though I've noticed that they do concentrate harder when needed.  :dunno_black:

True Wayne  :thumb: Though around 5 maybe out to 8 minutes would be enough, whilst riding I mean, Instructional vids, thats different.

Lol. Alot of them just talk their flow consciousness.. Hard to have something too thought out when you are focused on the ride at the same time.  I don't mind it, as I think similarly and actually do the same thing when I'm riding... I just don't record it for others lol.

Well I feel like I just wasted 20min of my life I'll never get get back. V-logger, motovlog? what? That guy has no place even riding a bike, no offense. If you subscribe to his vlog that's cool. I think I've seen another one of his squideo logs and it was long and boring to. Seems like he just rides around looking for stuff to talk about. Just my opinion.

I'm not subed to him, his videos pop up in the side bar some times. There is some better motovlogs out there.

I have a few i watch for different reasons, some talk about motorcycles mainly, some talk about life, some explore places and talk about things he runs into. I watch this guys because i like his videos in general (his editing etc is pretty cool).
