This is my typical airport experience at CVG:

that bar reminded me of the one @ sky harbor. time i boarded the plane. damn i was toast. 1st time i ever flew first class. ( PA asked if anyone willing to give up seat would get first class bump and lounge priveledges) so i called home saying flight delayed. 2 hours later was omw. btw adidas where you off to?  find me a good deal on some stuff. cant find it anywhere near here lol  :technical:

I'll tell you what to do. Go in that bathroom and drop the kids off at the pool and make sure you clog the pool filter with plenty of towels (poop and clog). Then run trough around screaming OMG! TSHTF! THE METHANE FUMES! I CAN'T BREATHE!

Those Walkers Short Bread cookies - only ONE per wrapper. You have to grab a handful!
That wasn't the bar - it was the breakfast/snack area. Bar was bigger. Free booze.
I'm here now. I'll post pictures when I get them off of the iPad.
Thank god the commoners and paupers weren't allowed in the club. That's worse than being in a bar full of Vespa owners wearing black leather like they're tough.

OK. Now that I got the iPad pictures uploaded to gs500.net....

I go LEFT. Commoners to the right. The difference? There is a blue throw rug with the United logo we get to walk on! How cool is that?
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/image11.jpg) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/129/title/image11/cat/500)

So here I was for the next 5 hours. What? No pre-flight cocktails? Sheeeeeesssshhhhh!
Had my vintage mini-disc player andthe Haynes carb manual. Might as well educate myself since we didn't have video on demand (crappy old Airbus A-320. Boeing is better!)
I had my camera. Don't know why. THE WINDOWS WERE DIRTY!
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/image10.jpg) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/128/title/image10/cat/500)

To add insult to injury, my steak was medium WELL - not medium. At least the roll was hot and the salads cold.
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/image9.jpg) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/127/title/image9/cat/500)

The service was excellent.
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/image8.jpg) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/126/title/image8/cat/500)

More problems! There was NO CARAMEL for the ice cream sunday! Still, I enjoyed it then too a nap for the next couple hours.
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/image6.jpg) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/124/title/image6/cat/500)

More to follow as I get pix uploaded from camera.
Today I might take the train to town. I'm 3 blocks from Newark Penn Station.

It happened. At least by Eastern time I am now a real old geezer.

Pictures later. I went adidas shopping today. Then had dinner at the world famous Carmines in Times Square. Pictures to follow.

Got some nice t-shirts. Found a long sleeve adidas plaid shirt on sale. Got camo cargo shorts, too and they are adidas!

So... how did you get started with your Adidas... hobby, anyways?

A friend kept ragging me about wearing a fringed leather suede jacket from the 70-s so there was a sale on adidas at a store and the rest is history.

At Carmines. Calamari and super huge salad. Calamari brought in fresh daily. Best squid I ever had! So this is where quidly riders end up after they crash? Served for dinner at Carmines?
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/DSC03260.JPG) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/139/title/dsc03260/cat/500)

48oz prime rib at Carmines. No, I couldn't eat it all and a friend shared it. Still lots left for today's meals. They make them fresh when you order so it is an hour to get it. Super delicious! Topped with fries, mushrooms and onions. How many places cood up a new prime rib cut when you order it? Calamari were also fresh daily.
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/DSC03263.JPG) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/140/title/dsc03263/cat/500)

I didn't tell them about the birthday. I joked to the waitress about it saying I didn't want all that fuss for a free desert. She said "Free? I work for Sicilians and nothing is free. You buy the birthday desert you get a song." She was really fun!

I didn't ride any bikes but did ride ON a kawasaki - subway/train car that is...
(http://www.gs500.net/gallery/data/500/DSC03266.JPG) (http://www.gs500.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/141/title/dsc03266/cat/500)

some of the day's catch:
shorts, cargo shorts, 3 t-shirts, long sleeve plaid shirt, aluminum water bottle, 2 new sets of adidas Senheiser headphones, and other stuff.

Slept in today. Got up at 2pm EDT.
Took PATH train witha friend to Macy's and then to B&H Photo. Bought some camera stuff. B&H is a really fantastic store.

Train back to EWR. Having a glass of 2009 Ravenswood Old Vines ZIN. Yummy!

Going home tomorrow. Other friends were trying to get here but got bumped off their flight from HNL. They should be here tomorrow for an hour before I have to leave.

I hope I remember how to get home. I'm so old now.

Got my adidas fix for a while.  Nice stuff. Had a good birthday trip.

I had Piresito on my mind. Went for Portuguese food in the Ironbound District of Newark.
FABULOUS! A carnivore's delight. Meat eaters paradise.

Rodizio I think is what it is called. They bring unlimited skewers of meat of all kinds to your table. I am sooooo stuffed. The Portuguese really know how to cool meat.

Having wine with friends. Go home tomorrow. Was in seat 3-F. I like the bulkhead so I can put my feet up. So now in 1-F. If we land from the north in Seatac, I can take pictures of West Seattle.

Shopping done. Had a happy birthday with friends.

Was in first class 1 time.  Very nice.  CVG is a Delta Hub, so I got some of what they call Delta Hospitality.  Nice!

Most of the time, I'm crammed in some Canadair CRJ or Embraer ERJ-145.

Flew on an MD-88 from ATL to CVG last year.  I was like "Big plane".  Used to be a small plane.  Went from ATL to Hawaii in 1997 on a Lockheed L1011 (like a DC10 sort-of).  Now that was a big plane!

L1011's had issues back in the day. first palne i rode in was a 707 in first. ( grandfather paid for that one) second was a 727, best first i rode in was an airbus of some flavour. another free ride lol. i take bumpups whenever i can.

Brasilia.

Seems whenever I post I'm going somewhere I don't hear from people.

I'll be back there for a few days week of May 13th. let me know if you want to get together and I'll adjust my plans. Haven't made plane reservations yet. I can be there extra days or do whatever I want.

I stay at 111 Mulberry (Renaissance Towers). At Market and Mulberry. So it doesn't cost me anything to be there. Only expense is airfare, food and the PATH or NJT to go shopping at the adidas store 136 Wooster and at Broadway and Houston.

I'm not that against Puma. Did you know Puma and adidas are related? Long ago there was a family squabble - one went off and started up Puma. Both have roots back to the Dassler family. (adi Dassler - hence adidas).

Oh, you know that, don't you? Being in Germany.

Never been in your area. Love Berlin. Minich has excellent schweinshaxen, though there is a brew pub in the Sony Center in Berlin that is really good. Been to Mintz.

FORTUNE -- Cain and Abel. Romulus and Remus. Adidas and Puma? The rivalry between two of the world's most recognizable brands went far beyond mere corporate competition. It was a vicious family feud that not only pitted two brothers against one another, but also divided the inhabitants of their hometown into warring factions -- and lasted 60 years.

In the 1920s, the brothers were partners in the Dassler Brothers Sports Shoe Company, operating out of their mother's laundry room in the small German town of Herzogenaurach. Adolf ("Adi") Dassler was the quiet, thoughtful craftsman who designed and made the shoes, complemented by the older Rudolph ("Rudi") who was the extroverted salesman. Although the brothers joined the Nazi party when Hitler seized power in 1933, it didn't stop them getting legendary African-American track star Jesse Owens to wear their shoes as he competed and won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympics. Owens' victory gave the shoes international exposure, and sales of the Dasslers' product exploded.

But the success created new tensions in the brothers' relationship, already strained by the fact that their families lived in the same villa despite their wives not getting along. There were several incidents that were said to have precipitated their conflict, but the most widely accepted one took place during World War II when the Allies were bombing Herzogenaurach. As Adi and his wife climbed into a bomb shelter already occupied by Rudi and his wife, he exclaimed, "The dirty bastards are back again," referring to the Allied forces. Rudi was convinced the remark was directed at him and his family. A feud -- one of the most epic and, well, Biblical in business history -- was born. (Not surprisingly Adidas vs. Puma is No. 20 on Fortune's list of the 50 greatest business rivalries of all time.)

When Rudi got called up for service, he suspected Adi and his wife had schemed to get him sent to the front so they could have him out of the way at work. Later, Rudi was arrested first for deserting his post and then by the Allies on suspicion of working for the Gestapo. On both occasions, Rudi was convinced that Adi was the one ratting him out, his suspicions confirmed by a report filed by an American investigating officer. While Rudi languished in a prisoner of war camp, Adi rebuilt the business, selling shoes to American G.I.s.

The conflict escalated as the brothers split the company in two in 1948, dividing the assets and the employees between themselves. Adi named his company "Adidas," a combination of his first and last names. Rudi attempted the same by first naming his company "Ruda" but eventually changed it to the more athletic sounding "Puma." The two built competing factories on opposite sides of the river Aurach and quickly became responsible for much of Herzogenaurach's economy, with nearly everyone working for one company or the other.

As the entire town got caught up in the Dassler family feud, the rivalry reached ridiculous proportions. There were local businesses that served only Adidas or only Puma people, dating or marrying across company lines was forbidden, and Herzogenaurach became known as "the town of bent necks" since people first looked at which company's shoes you were wearing before deciding to talk to you.

While Rudi had the sales staff and was better at moving product, Adi had the technical know-how and better relationships with athletes who could provide exposure, tipping the scales in favor of Adidas, with Puma constantly playing catch-up. However, in focusing so heavily on each other, both the companies were slow to react to the threat of Nike (NKE), which would come to dominate the athletic footwear industry, leaving them far behind.

It wasn't until 2009 when employees of both companies symbolized the end of six decades of feuding by playing a friendly soccer match. By then, the Dassler brothers had both died, within four years of each other. Even in death, the animosity continued as the brothers were buried at opposite ends of the same cemetery, as far away from each other as possible.

Hey Adidas,

Know who made that chain of your's famous hmmm?

BTW I've kinda gone to the dark side. When I got my new glasses the only ones that fit my requirements were Nike. Adidas didn't have any glasses there. Of course you have to match
