Title: Test rides
Post by: W79 on March 23, 2013, 04:38:52 AM
Just got back from the local BMW dealership...
No, I'm not considering a new bike, but a friend of mine is.
He now drives a V-strom 650, but he's seriously considering a BMW.

The local dealer had the people from BMW eventdrive over:
They show up with a trailer full of new bikes, and you get to drive any one you choose, for an half an hour stint.

I tested three:
- the F800gt: out of the three most like our GSf: faired bike, but a lot more focused on comfort.
- an F700gs: point-and-go bike: incredibely agile, good fun.
- and finally the F800r, naked bike: also a lot of fun, but nowhere near as good as the gt.

In three weeks I'm doing something similar at my Suzuki dealer, where I'll get to drive the Gsx650f for an hour.

Fixed!  :flipoff:

Slipperymongoose has one of the 800r's. Not a bad bike to ride. Plenty of ooomph.

Well, FYT Twisted  :flipoff:

;)  Thanks for correcting me: me posts usually have an edit or two because of various typos, etc.

800R was a blast to drive, but I had even more fun on the GS.  If I had the money, out of these three I'd pick the GT though...

The GT is very appealing now it has electronically adjustable rear shock, and switchable abs and traction control. But your right the GS's are a hoot to ride. My preference is the f800gs but I'm in love with my R does everything I need to to and makes me smile while I do it.

Had any issues with shaking mirrors?
I hit 150 (k, not mph  :D) on the highway, and from 100 up everything in the mirrors was a blur.

I was also surprised by the sound: very dry and clean.  My humble Suzuki sounds better IMHO.

Yeah mirrors become useless at high speed. The noise I love specially when you rev it out. The cold start up sound is like a growl, it's sort of growls at you like 'how dare you awaken me from slumber' "growl"
