Title: Looking for this seat...
Post by: CgMcKinney on March 23, 2013, 09:47:48 PM
Found this picture in one of the threads here. I'm interested in making a GS500 cafe-style build, and so far this is ones of the best seats I've found.

I'd like to find a seat that doesn't require too much modification of the subframe, so if you have any other suggestions, feel free to post up!

Btw, bike is a 93 GS500E

Most all but not all seats like that are just a piece of foam that have been wrapped in a marine grade vinyl Some café tails like that will also come with the seat as a package deal if you look around.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of them are just custom made bits so it has me debating on either making one myself or just buying one off Ebay. I'm just a tad weary of the fitment since they rarely come with measurements.  :dunno_black:

Find a few you like then email the seller and ask for the inside measurements so you know its going to fit before ordering.  The most important measurements are going to be your inside measurement so your sure it fits over the tail frame rails and then how long it is so you don't have to cut to much off the frame for fitment.  Other then that its all about the look you are going to.  Your going to want it to be about the same size as the widest part of your frame and then will have to add a few tabs for attaching the tail to the frame in the narrow places.

That's about what I was thinking...

Well while you're here, would you happen to know the minimum distance between bends on clubman bars in order for them to fit?

I've been doing a ton of searching and whatnot and all I get is "it was too short and I had to add a piece". It'd be nice to know some actual measurements though. The ones I'm looking at are 7 3/4. They're supposed to be longer between bends in order to fit wider tanks

Im not sure on that size I never used them but your going to want them a little wider then your top triple tree width.  That way they clear your triple tree when you bolt them on.  I would measure but I don't own my GS anymore.  I have an 08 vstar 650 that I have been modding for about 2 yrs now.  I have about 40k more miles then Ill be getting another bike.

I have this one on my GS425. very similar to what you are looking for. You can buy it with the cushion or without.

I still haven't gotten a chance to measure the width of the subframe and stuff. I won't be able to until Wednesday at the earliest. Any chance you've tried to fit that seat on a gs500?

I have not and can't since I no longer have a stock subframe on my GS. You can also get them here at Roc City. They have a variety.
