Local micro-brew and Muscat grapes. Seedles ones that wine is made from. Sooooo tasty and sweet! The metro market just got them in.

What are you down to now?

I had only been a couple/few weeks in on mine when we met at the motorcycle show...

... week eight just started for me... down 24lbs!  my goal is 30lbs in ten weeks, so I'm on track!

Upto swimming 3500 yards 3 times a week, and the occasional 4th if I can squeeze it in... Need to step it up to keep from a plateau, so I'm decreasing lap times and rest intervals while increasing laps per interval each week to finish it out.

Nice local ice cream. All local ingredients - no growth hormones in the cream or any of that crap that gets put in our food here.

 :police:

bST is found in milk cow's milk naturally... All cow's milk has it.  Additionally, there are no significant findings that support differing levels of bST in in cows which receive bST vs. those that do not.  So, that ice cream has those same 'hormones' in it too! .. and the same amount of them! (ewww, gross!)... unless its not actually made with real milk... which then it wouldn't be 'natural' would it?  :icon_rolleyes:

It is a marketing technique for those that produce 'natural' or 'organic' products. No, they may not inject their cows with it, but it is already in there whether they like it or not... and if they tried to remove it, well, it wouldn't natural or organic now would it? Natural and organic milk is processed the same way any other milk is processed to make it a sellable, uniform product... it still gets processed the same!  It has to in order to meet federal regulations.

Also, minor note: Natural vs. Organic is a huge difference and another topic... I am not putting them on the same level, but referring to them as both commonly mistaken for what they actually are.

Apologies for the minor rant - no flame behind it - The general public is misinformed with assumptions marketing and other bias parties create.

Back in the first post, I noticed the beer can carries the slogan "Because Beer Matters"...but I don't think that particular microbrewery really cares, because they put their beer in A CAN. Might as well be Busch or Natty Lite.

Real craft beer comes in a refillable glass growler or straight from a keg.  :icon_mrgreen: :flipoff:

I have never heard that rBGT is bad because it increases BGT levels in milk. I have heard that rBGT treated cows have more health issues, which has been well documented, and hence you end up drinking milk from cows that are more likely to be unhealthy or pumped full of antibodies.

because something naturally has something - more does not mean it is still OK.

Wine: It naturally has sulfites. It is a natural product of the grapes. Something like 5 ppm. Still, adding MORE to say 30ppm can cause asthmatic reactions. Even with what is there naturally, California requires a warning.

Maybe cows do have that stuff. Adding more to the cow to make more milk or make it grow faster to take to slaughter sooner is not necessarily good. Excessive growth hormones show "no significant problems". True, perhaps. So what is "significant"? maybe putting on 3 pounds of weight a year is not considered "significant", or something they look at in a 2 year study. But look at all the fat babies and 2 & 3 year old's that look like an air compressor was stuck in them? You can't blame that on lack of exercise or video games. At that age they are always active and in this country, way too many of them are fat. Extra growth hormones in the food and a few extra pounds of weight is are good.

I don't see these problems of everyone being fat when I travel in Europe. Yes, there are some fat people but not the rampant obesity we have here. Even if the stuff in food added 2 pounds a year, after 20 years you are now 40 pounds overweight. Fat due to hormones and chemicals is not easy to get rid of.

Why do we need all the crap in our food? Why do we need or want a vegetable to produce insecticides through genetic engineering if we don't want them sprayed on out food? It is all money. Follow the money.

Remember: eating fat does not make you fat. Your diet should be about 30% fat for proper health. It is calories in verses calories used. Fat free foods are not healthy and are over processed to where they are empty calories with no nutrition. Sugar free drinks confuse the brain and your metabolism. Why is it fat people always insist on diet drinks and non-fat people donot? Studies have shown diet drinks don't make you lose weight.

Enough ranting.

So what are you nibbling on at the moment?

You do know that one common way to increase rBST is to feed GM corn to dairy cows.  GM means genetically modified.  GM products are so commonly used I doubt people realize how much they ingest directly and indirectly.

Around 80-90% of my diet is beans/vegetables and one grapefruit a day. I am a formerly obese person.

I started off eliminating small things like cheese, mayonnaise, and red meat from my diet. Then I removed al fried food and soft drinks. Though I still occasionally drink diet drinks, I typically only consume water or water with lemon and crystal light (generic). I know that's technically a diet drink but it's not a soft drink.

I started eating beans about a year ago. Believe you me...that was the best thing I've ever done in terms of weightloss. Beans fill you up with good stuff and also increase the rate at which you digest food (fiber, mainly). And in case you're wondering...no, I don't fart all the time. Your body will adjust to the high fiber intake rather quickly and the gas will subside in a week or two.

Of course, I do binge every once in a while. I'll go and get the worst possible thing (usually icecream and chicken fingers) and eat it. That way I don't go nuts one day, and I never gain weight again.

That's the story of how I went from this:

Topped out at 340lbs in 2009...had a 46" waist at one point.

Now, I've got a 33" waist and weigh 172 as of last week.

I'll be making a Creme Brulee with GOOSE eggs! Using just 2 of them. The 3rd I'll fry up for dinner.
Bought 3 of them at the West Seattle farmers Market (Sundays 10-2 at 44th and Alaska for you locals)
These are HUGE!
Picture compares them to duck eggs and duck eggs are larger than chicken eggs.

I have never heard that rBGT is bad because it increases BGT levels in milk. I have heard that rBGT treated cows have more health issues, which has been well documented, and hence you end up drinking milk from cows that are more likely to be unhealthy or pumped full of antibodies.

All I was saying there is that companies which produce 'Natural' or 'Organic' milk put on their labels 'NO bST' or similar... and that is completely false! because all cow's milk has it... many claims put on a label are misleading in this way, like adidasguy's ice cream.

The feds put limits on antibodies and other body cells found in the milk (called Somatic Cell Count or SCC)... Also, you cannot drink from cows that have been treated with any medicines or antibiotics... so you cannot drink milk from unhealthy cows.  Unhealthy cows do not produce milk/good milk so no farmer would make money if they didn't have healthy cows.  And those that do not meet federal requirements, are separated during the milking process.  It would not be a cost effective practice if cows had more health issues when treated with bST.

and adidasguy.. cows are treated with bST all over the world, Europe is not excluded, though they have stricter regulations on most of their foods, and GM products ... I highly doubt milk is the culprit for obesity in the U.S.  ... many people who are unhealthy are so because they don't drink milk or develop other healthy habits when they are younger... but I see the point you are making.  Saying that little things we may not detect add up over time.  But this is how these companies sell their products, by making you afraid of the unknown or mysterious while their products have just as many themselves. You are completely correct that there is a problem in the U.S. that other countries do not have though.

John brings up a great point.  One that should anger those who spend their money on it... but when a product tells you that it is GMO free, they have little to prove that.  You may be surprised at what little requirements there are to make claims like this on a product package.  Nearly all corn and soy is GM in some way already, wheat is very close to that point as well.  If some company somehow found some seeds that aren't, good luck keeping it that way when you go to grow quantities large enough to make any product due to cross pollination and other means.

I'd love to buy you guys some beers and talk it out, but this is the internet, so I doubt what I say will change anyone's mind.  Just read up or research it if you want the bigger picture, and try to stay away from bias sources (nearly impossible I know, but don't go to PETA to get your information is all I'm saying LOL)

... Oh, and to add to the topic...
Really awesome to see that kind of change Kijona!  I hope you can inspire others.

I am having my morning coffee and protein bar before my shift starts.
