Title: Opinions wanted on a couple things.
Post by: PatheticPuma on March 27, 2013, 02:50:35 PM
I have mounted the HID headlight I bought using the stock ears. My question is do you guys think it sits too low for stock springs?

My plan was to get sonic springs but I found out I lose my job April 5th so any purchases are now on hold. I have some aluminum brackets I could use to raise it about an inch, just wanted to know if it would be necessary.

Secondly I was curious if anyone here has used a keyless gas cap. I quite like the idea of getting a keyless one since the one I have is coated in kreme liner throughout and makes the damn thing harder than shaZam! to open.

anything is too low if you still have stock springs.

Those triangle metal ears off of the fork mounts? Flip them around upside down. That would raise the light about 3" and would look better. It should be hiding the gauges.

I hadn't even considered flipping the mounts.

I need to stop over thinking simple things.

Nice headlight. What did you pay for that and where did you get it?

As for the keyless gas cap, I guess that depends on how paranoid you are.  :D

I'm not too paranoid about people syphoning or messing with my gas. More so with do they cause starvation issues as all the pics I've seen of them appear to be made to be air tight. As for the the headlight I got it for cheap on craigslist missing the ballast for the angel eye (which I bought and haven't even opened). The only other place I've seen it for sale is eBay in several colors for $275 (eBay number 280826132676).  I like that it also has the turn signals integrated into it, will compliment the integrated r1 taillight well.

That headlight looks so clean on that bike, much better now that it is covering the gauges?

<---See my profile pic? Now that is ugly!

Imagine how much cleaner it will look when I get off my ass and conceal all the wiring (after I find out where my electrical problem is)

Thats the plan Adidas. But I have to figure out what I did that made my ignition switch stop working.

Hmmmm.  Ignition switch? Symptoms?

Did you put the key in and turn it?
Did you plug in the ignition connector?
Did you connect the battery?
Fuse?

Key yes. Connector yes. Battery yes. Fuse I should probably check that. I was assuming clutch or side stand switches.

So what is the problem? Hard to help unless we know specifically the problem.
Lights come on? What?  :dunno_black:

Well simply put. Everything worked, I removed the fugly fairing from the PO, no longer works. I just printed the color wiring diagram from my Haynes e-manual, figure I jarred something loose.

Just realized i said ignition switch, I meant starter switch/button.

Check your wiring diagram.
The starter button is in series with the clutch safety switch.

Also, in gear with side stand down kills the bike. Interlock of side stand switch and neutral switch.
Be sure in neutral. If on center stand and in gear, you can hear the side stand relay click (next to the flasher relay) when you raise and lower the side stand.

That's the plan, whenever I get the chance to look at it. Busy busy planning for this weekend.

Alright did some digging, and found 4 disconnected wires that according to the manual make sense to be open.

Green - Turn signal
Black - Turn Signal

Havent ran the wires for the integrated turn signals in the light yet. So I know those will get connected.

Brown - Sidelight - I dont know what light their talking about but I am pretty sure I dont have it.

2x Black w/white going into single connector. - Not sure on this one but I believe it is the ground for both front turn signals. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The side stand relay works, and all wires from the clutch switch are connected.

I am inclined to think it is a problem with my neutral switch. I come to this conclusion because even though the bike will be in neutral, the indicator on the dash seems to only come on some of the time.

So for the time being I am stuck until I can get my neutral switch off so I know what it looks like to see if I have a spare. And If I dont I will be stuck until I can find me a new job so I can afford parts.

Brown is running light. "F" models have it in the headlight. You will also find a brown wire in the rear going to your tail light. That's the rear running light (i.e. tail light on dim when bike is on).

You can start in gear with the side stand up and the clutch pulled in.

Good chance your clutch switch is busted? Try shorting the wires to the clutch switch. Clutch switch is in series with the start button.

DING DING DING   :woohoo:

Adidas is right AGAIN, bypass the clutch switch, hit the button and BOOM tried turning right over. I know I have another clutch lever/switch around here somewhere too...

Have a Karma Korn

Watch my video on clutch levers. Lots of people break the switch because it has to be removed to remove the lever. Most bikes are not like that.

Already watched it haha. Do you have any recommendations on levers that sit a little closer to the bars? They're a bit of a reach for my wife on her bike.

You can get adjustable brake levers. About $25 or so. MotionPro has good quality.

Clutch levers not adjustable unless....
a) You buy LSL for $125 which is the only compatible adjustable lever
b) or you change the perch to sv650 or Honda H4 or something else so you can buy cheap (if you wish) adjustable clutch lever.

If clutch switch is busted, and yu have the old one with a tiny PC board and parts that fall out, cut the wires at the PC board, add spade lugs and install the newer switch. It fits in there the same. Be sure you orient it the correct way so clutch IN is switch on, clutch OUT is switch off. They can go in backwards.
