Title: gas leak from hose by right foot peg
Post by: anoopb on April 01, 2013, 12:37:51 PM
Hi,

I was doing some research after discovering that gas was leaking out in droplets from the run off hose by the right foot peg.

i can't figure out why that's happening as the fuel valve is set to ON and not PRI.

Additionally, even after running/riding for a while (an hour or so), sometimes the bike just has trouble starting up.

i can't really figure out what's going on with it.

any thoughts?

thanks

Seems like stick floats in the carbs. Gas is pouring into the airbox and draining out of that hose with the pee pee like thing on the end.
Take out your air filter and look in the airbox. Gas in there? Is one carb dripping gas in there? Or both?

ok. could that explain why it doesn't start up at times even when it's warm? i rode on saturday on the e-way and it got up to about 60 and then it just didn't want to accelerate after that. i put some seafoam in it thinking it was clogged jets maybe. how does one unstick the floats?

Dirty and/or stuck you need to open up the carbs. Not starting could be flooded. Poor acceleration at high speed could be the float is stuck and won't open up to let more fuel in, but isn't closed to stop fuel flow at low speed or when off.

Do not be in PRIME as a stuck float will let gas pour in. When stubborn starting, do you have the choke on? If so, try without the choke.

Time for carb cleaning I guess. Seafoam MAY correct it. Might take a can or two and a couple tanks of gas. Worth a try.

I should also note that I futzed around with the pilot screw. I don't know if that makes it worse. Yes, it probably wasn't very smart of me to mess with it.

Pilot screw can make it run good or crappy. It won't cause fuel to get dumped into the air box.

i do have the choke on when starting up sometimes because it just cranks on and on and on and won't start up.

of course, i lose patience after a while and then turn the choke on.

i'm going to check tonight to see if there's gas in the airbox.

i was watching baltimoregs's videos

is the vent hose to the airbox the hose that's sticking out by my right leg?

If it has the pee pee thing on the end - then yes.

ok nice! these pieces are all starting to come together in my head.

will draining the float bowls unstick the floats?

tonight my goal is to simply see if there's gas in the airbox. how can i tell if both carbs are dripping as opposed to one?

thanks adidasguy!

Look in the airbox? Look at the air intakes. There might be a slight bit of gas as normal. Wet and dripping is not normal.
