Title: Wind screen
Post by: dmoore on April 03, 2013, 04:54:04 AM
Has anyone had any experience with this wind screen? It looks like it would be effective.

Thanks.

I have that one on my 2001 right now. its easy to install and provides good protection for highway travel(which is why i use it). Depending on how tall you are, it can be adjusted easily to fit your needs

More pictures and options than anything else, but have a look:

I have an F model, so it's different.

Thanks, men. It looks like it would be effective, punisherlp. A lot of the others look hipper but a bit skimpy as far as wind protection. Thanks again.

It's always a trade off on shield size for a naked GS I think.  On all the 400-750 cc Hondas I had before the GSs I always ran a National Cycle Plexi 2 shield year around here in NE Ohio.  Had one on for a trip to Americade in upstate NY in early June 02 on my 97 GS and after that I put on a smaller Slipstreamer Spitfire shield for a trip to the Smoky Mtns later that month.  For the almost 11 years since then I've been switching shields twice a year.

Hard to beat a big Plexi 2 size shield in Jan-Feb riding in temps down to 20F and it also provides much greater rain protection than the Spitfire, but it can be a handfull at freeway speeds on a windy day.  On the way to Americade that day back in 02 we ran most of the day in rain with high winds running at 80 mph highway speeds.  That's why I tried the Spitfire for the Smoky Mtn trip later that month.

Every spring when the warm winds start blowing I can hardly wait to get the Spitfire on and then in the fall when the temps dive again I'm in a hurry to get my big warm Plexi 2 back on.

I have the F-15 tour on my GS500E.  My experience pretty much mirrors gsJack's comments.  Great protection from wind,  elements, and cold, but it can get weird in a strong crosswind.

Not a great picture of the windscreen, but here's an old photo of the bike ready to go on tour:

Thanks Everyone. Great feedback. I understand the trade-off thing. I'm spoiled somewhat by my daily rider which is a VStar 1100 with a pretty big windshield. But even at that real strong winds can wreak havoc. The fatique that comes from constant wind buffeting can make a ride less pleasant so I'm leaning more toward the larger shield. Thanks again for your responses.
