Title: dammit, Suzuki...
Post by: vtlion on January 10, 2004, 11:40:17 AM
So I cruised over to the Suzukicyles.com website the other day and hit the motorcycles dropdown menu and....

:o

SV1000S, SV1000, SV650S, and SV650 were all listed!!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!

So naturally, I clicked to the SV1000S link, grinning like a cheshire-cat at the thought of FINALLY getting some details on the 04's......an what did the page say?......

"SV100S.... coming soon".... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!    :x

I know the '04 models will basically be carbon-copies of the 03's, but I'd love to see some info anyway.... how much longer can it possibly be?

I can't even get the page to load.  The borders come up but nothing happens.  I can click on bikes like they scroll down and stuff but when I click on a specific bike a small box comes up in the corner.  Is this just me or do some others get this as well?

that's not just you dude...I've had that problem every now and then, too.  Whoever is responsible for developing Suzuki's website should be taken out back and given a smack-down.

seriously, they should fire whoever is in charge of that website.  It makes the company look bad.

I posted an OT topic regarding this a couple of weeks ago, and got a few replies on what to try.  Nothing worked.  Suzuki's old site is still up, and you can even access info on models as far back as 1997.  What sucks is that you can't even contact Suzuki on the new site to tell them that you can't get most of the info from it. :dunno:

I believe the '04 SV models will debut in March or April.  From what I've read, the nekkid models are essentially unchanged, but the S models will have more comfortable ergos (higher bar, lower foot controls).

they must be aware of what a disaster their website is.  It's been botched ever since they did that drastic update for '04.  It's never actually worked correctly, so they would have to be completely incompetent to not know that it needs work.  I'm just stupified that in the 4 months since the change so little has gotten done on something as important as a national website.

For cryin' out loud, that site is the face of the company for potential customers.  For U.S. customers, this may be the first impression they have of the company... it's bad business

To find out when your '04 bikes come out go to the dealership.  They have a booklet about that stuff.  Their book says the new 500 comes out in march.  Lets beat the web designer with a big stick and blame it on the next squid that rides by.

A very interesting piece in UK Motorcycle News just recently.  Suzuki have modified the head of an experimental SV1000 to take a variable cam profile.  Instead of the cam being a narrow lobe with a fixed profile, it looks like a long cylinder with a wavy (variable profile) surface - effectively a bunch of different profiles side by side across the cylinder's face.  When you 'open the throttle' , an electric motor in the head winds the cam cylinder across the top of the valve stem/bucket to give a profile with more lift, admitting more fuel/air and causing the revs to rise.  It acts on both inlet & exhaust valves.  Supposed to be more fuel-efficient, and currently used on some high performance cars.

Suzuki makes motorcycles (and cars) not web pages...

exactly my point.... they make cars and bikes, and they obviously DONT make webpages, 'cause theirs SUCKS so bad it shouldn't even get to be called a webpage!!!

I'm talking about the idea that if you're gonna put something... anything... out there with your company's name on it, shouldn't you strive to make it WORK?  Personally, I wouldn't care if Suzuky didn't have a site, or had an antiquated lookin' site that did the job, but somebody is obviously asleep at the keyboard at Suzuki.

JMHO... rant over.

Coincidentally, I sent an email to them a few months back when the new site came out... something to the extent of:

"your site sucks. quit it."
