Title: Chains, Sprockets, Eliminating chain guard.
Post by: jake42 on January 11, 2004, 10:53:00 AM
Hey all,

I"m gonna be ordering a new set of sprockets and chain in the next month or two and I'm hoping to go to a 15 in front.  I know a bunch of you guys have done it and I was wondering where you went for them and what types of chain you decided on?  Also, I remember a post from ages ago where someone said they took off their chainguard and used chain wax instead of lube, but I remember it as being part of another topic so I figured I'd just put it out there again.

thanks

Jake
I"ve finally admitted that it's winter here and that it's time to start tinkering with the bike.

I got a DID chain, much nicer than the JC Whitney special I got last time. The cheap chain was just aggravating - it wore way too quickly and I was constantly adjusting it. The DID set me back about $70.  The chain wax still flings off the chain a little - and it's harder to get off your wheels...especially if they're white.  So far I haven't had any stained pants with the guard off though...but my riding pants are dark.

Hehehe. We got about 6" of snow followed by about 2 1/2" of freezing rain last week. completly shut down the entire area all last week.
Hell yea, I am riding the bike to work tommorrow. (the roads are clear.)

I dont think I am going to be able to admit defeat and bow out for winter.
I already havent ridden the bike in like 10 days and I am having serious withdrawls.
