Was jealous of Yama's goped thread, and didn't want to thread jack. So here is 1 thread I'll keep all my moped projects in.
This crazy addiction all started out 'cause I was too cheap to invest(sounds better than waste) money in big modifications on the DRZ. I can do full engine rebuild with all performance parts i can buy for next to nothing compared motos. I've been enjoy really getting into modifying engines.
My most recent build; 1980 Garelli SSXL LTD.

(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_4694_zps7f4bb57f.jpg)
Put a rare 2 speed NOI engine(Garelli's horizontal engine design) on the old 1 speed frame. Also I installed; 70cc Polini Top end, Mikuni VM20 carb, 20mm intake, big expansion chamber exhaust, and currently running 11/43 gearing.
Carb is jetted rich while the cylinder breaks in and rings get set. Carb's settings; 155 main, 17.5 idle, needle clip on middle notch, ~2.25 turns out on idle screw, and 1.5 on air/fuel screw.
GPS'd at 48.91 yesterday;
Best part of mopeds? The more you buy (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/2013-04-04_12-20-19_789_zpsca255df6.jpg), the thicker yer beard gets! (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_4655_zpsf3d383fe.jpg)
Nice!
I have an old Derbi that was given to me for free. Too bad the ignition is fried......
rode the goped out to friends house ( 12 miles) and what did i find? a motobecane ( moped of some sort. said he wanted 140 for it. may postpone goped finish to acquire this thing. body looks near flawless save for a few dings
a motobecane 50v steezin, in your opinion think i ought to go for it? its well worth it in parts alone. plus the battlepig could use a backup in case i have to put it down for service. anyhoo in the goped thread, feel free to threadjack ;) its all good :)
hey steezin, whats your opinion on this? ( not the actual picture, but condition wise its identical)
(http://hereandthere.us/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/motobecanemoped.jpg) is it worth 140? id think it is in parts. and it does run
you cant beat teh polini engineparts. ( we use em on gopeds too lol) theyre eveil with teh right setup. am liking what i see thusfar. plus theyre simple to work on
$140 for a running 50v with mags is a great buy! the 50v is the variated version and can be really built. even stock with the cashew pipe is a 30mph daily reliable.
i scored a burnt orange 50v, not running though.. i traded it for a 07 tomos sprint parts bike. pipe dream on that one is a 80cc gila kit :icon_twisted:
preciate it! the polini is definitely ripping. i'm working on gearing now to help it climb hills. got it on 10/43 and its better, but when i find my front 9 i think it will be just about right.
tuning this little beast is giving me more confidence to tune the gs with full jardine and lunchbox
will have pictures up tonight. basically reserved it. awaiting funds to pick up. maybe monday?
Ehh not the mags. has wires C'est la vie lol. still going for it. dont think engine is original either but hey shes got a solid set of bones to build on @ some point
(http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u360/gstwin/Mobile%20Uploads/0418131013_zpsf8f0e921.jpg) (http://s519.photobucket.com/user/gstwin/media/Mobile%20Uploads/0418131013_zpsf8f0e921.jpg.html)
That video is awesome! Sound is good also, what camera?
DAMN! that's a big engine, a 125cc lifan 4 stroke engine maybe? Definitely looks kick start with no pedals. Kind of looks like a 2 stroke expansion chamber though.. Lots of the newer younger mopeders crave more speed, reliability, and ease of the newer 4t engines over the old vintage engines. They slap a lifan on and rip like crazy.
Definitely looks like a solid bike yama. i would pick it up for $140, and if the sellers not a friend- always try to talk them down a couple more dollars haha. No worries on mags, I actually enjoy getting a set of good spokers. Watch out for tank rust! With the moby having its tank fixed to the frame, makes it a tougher time for rust removal.
'Preciate it Harry - Its a gopro 2, running an external mic. Here's a photo of the setup;

(http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u360/gstwin/Mobile%20Uploads/0420130022_zps29ab0eba.jpg)
got it to fire. need to clean carb. paint is near flawless, specially for being nearly 2-2.5 decades old

Brilliant :thumb: :cheers:
i ID'ed the engine on the motobecane a telltale sign was the suzuki S on the carburetor cover. ( on side of engine) came from one of these
(http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/1971-lineup-Japan/1971_TS50-Hustler_yell_450.jpg)a suzi ts50
sooo should it be called a suzubecane, or perhaps a motozuki? maybe add a honda piece and a yam piece and call it a yamahonmotozuki loving these things already lol. someone tries to buy it before i get the thing home. i politely decline offer.
dude thats badass mang. definitely snatch some better photos, i want to see that beast in all its glory!
talked with a guy in a couple towns over that has a bunch of 50cc hondas and suzukis. also has a bunch of >200cc zuki's. i'm going to walk around and check his place out next time i'm up that way
PM sent, sorry for clogging up your build thread.

Got pulled over tonight on the goped lol. cop says, seen you going across 4 lanes of traffic ( and against traffic, i dont think thats legal. i said what to get across st w/o shoulder? to HTINK it isnt legal? well if you must go ahead and write me a ticket on a law you THINK i may have broken. ( said law doesnt exist. gopeds are pretty much exempt from moto laws regarding helmets and lights. licensure and insurance. theyre pwoered skateboards for lack of a better term. kept calling it a moped. said you might want to check TCA regarding what defines a moped. even motorised bicycles are not mopeds. since they can be used with or without engine assist. under 50cc, and less than 5bhp. he said, if i see you out again, i might have to consider a ticket. i replied. do what you must cause i am not stopping riding this. ive broken no laws and can provide YOU and the judge witha copy of said laws on a court date. ( didnt get a ticket. just warned to use a lid. ( helmet) which i should to be honest. i didnt today :nono: funny thing is once i get motozuki on road it DOES fall under moped rules, BUT is exempt as well, being under sized. a bit of a catch 22. be careful steezin. some LEOs out there dont know their ass from a hole in the ground
here ya go steezin, the pigs sister
(http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u360/gstwin/Mobile%20Uploads/0421131923_zps317d37e1.jpg)
frame is a 1978 engine IS a suzuki ts50 of which i know little about. plug is fould, so best i could get out of her today was a fart. but id say witha plug change. this will also change. will update. anyhoo going to stop threadjackin ya lol . My apologies
Sucks po's are after ya on the battlepig. I'm not sure how the laws work out on that beast either. I would definitely be wearing a helmet on that monster though. I've lost too many friends to head injuries to not wear a helmet on anything i ride(snowboard, freebord, moped, motos, etc..)
The motozuki looks rad ass! I've been on the hunt for a ts50(or any other shifty fifties) for a while. I know they make a big bore 70cc kit for the ts50's engine also some solid chambered exhausts.
A utube vid of a ts50 with 70cc kit riding around. Sounds soo good!;
here's a parts fiche for the ts50. Still hunting for a shop manual for ya.
http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-ts50_model14143/
Definitely keep us posted in here! I'm not worried one bit about thread jacking.
This is the Shredped Sanctuary!!! And the motozuki is most definitely worthy of more updates in here!!

he said "i THINK its illegal, mopeds arent suppsoed to ( i ignored after this schpiel) cause the pig does NOT fit the description of a moped, motor assisted cycle, motorised bicycle or scooter. so methinks he was fishing for a reason afterwards. only thing he had me on was helmet. ( since taken care of that. using my old tortoise shell i had with my HD which IS DOT approved ;)
Yeah that's bunk.. popo's around here like to mess with people(college town), but they're reasonable if you aren't acting like a fool. Been pulled over once while tuning the ped around the neighborhood. Didn't have my helmet or my license on me :oops: haha. Told him my name/info and that i was just tuning the moped up(was on my gf's 88 tomos TT). He was cool, said, "I believe ya, I'll run yer name to make sure you aren't a axe murderer from CA." We laughed and he went back to his cruiser. Came back and said all was well, just go home and get my helmet. I quickly thanked him and w/o hesitation asked if it was OK to ride home. He just as quickly shut me down with a stern, No. Then i asked if i could pedal it home w/o the engine, a look of confusion came over his face, after which he replied, "errr I don't see why not.." I pedaled that beast right in front of his cruiser to get some dash cam footage for them to laugh at later. Good times.. Wish i could see that footage haha
A quick fly by of my brother on the LTD;
I recorded some more gopro footy, and plan on doing more riding this week which i'll film. Will post a new vid soon
Could get copies of that later on if its in their archives
May end up letting the pigs sister go, that or sell the shifty fifty out from under it, to finish the goped repairs. if i let the 50 go from it, ill find an mv50 basket case and build it up as time permits
hmm may let the shift fifty go. found these on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOBECANE-AV7-STOCK-ENGINE-CASES-moped-moby-mobylette-/300520858814?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45f87064be&vxp=mtr
all id need to locate would be a crank, piston rod and carb = new engine
Ah that's what's so good about mopeds/gopeds. No paperwork for dmv to catch you flipping parts and peds like crazy. I've parted/sold 10 peds so far in the past year and a half. Got another parting right now. 1 on the burner to ether fix or part and a handful more waiting for attention.
a puch mv50?? those things are crazy good looking! If you ever need moped parts, just shoot me a PM. Mopedarmy is full of good parts and people, if you can stomach sifting through the stupid amount of trolls.
Just brought my first shifty fifty home saturday. a 1983 Yamaha RX50. 50cc, 5 speed, cruiser style(19" front rim 16" rear). Same engine as the YSR50 so performance parts are out there! Only a couple thousand imported to raffle off as incentives for yamaha's bigger bike sales. From what i've read. it was never mass produced and put on the lot, but they ran them overseas as the Rebel 50's. They imported 2 color black(more rare) and red/maroon. Mine is in rough shape, and will probably see a new tank and seat config by the end of the project. I've made a deal with myself that i can't touch any of my moped projects until the GS is gotten lots of work. So the RS will chill in the shed until, then will get cleaned up, bar swapped with something sitting around and rode as in for a while. Then complete tear down fix rusting and put a new style tank and seat on it.
Only photo i have of it. Not even going to take good photos of it until I'm closer on the GS;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_20130427_171302_zps9038054e.jpg)
gotta love it when a ped/bike can fit sideways INSIDE a vehicle with doors closed Eh?. Hell my goped wont fit, cause handlebar has been doweled, and wont fold. but LOADS stiffer
For sure! The look on sellers faces when i pop the tailgate to start loading them up is priceless haha
the motobecane. ( COMPLETE) fit inside a mazda tribute. aka ford escape/mercury mariner only had to fold down back seat fit easily
If your looking for moped parts got to www.treatland.tv I think I have a motobecane cylinder laying around somewhere. No piston but its yours if you cover the ten dollar flatrate box. I just sold a av7 wish I had known there was gs moped enthusiasts.

Run starting my 70cc reed valve. needle valve got stuck and I flooded the cylinder and chamber.
Nice nab! I'm stuck on mopeds for sure. Can't tell from the photos, puch? kind of looks like a general tank though. Got any better photos/info?
Got more time in the shredped shop this weekend. Up on the list was my brothers '99 tomos ttlx. I promised him i'd finish it out for his graduation present. Here's a photo of it when i picked it up, she has been dubbed the Rusty Hornet;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_3720.jpg)
His Rear mag that came with it had tossed its bearing and destroyed the mag. Pulled a spare spoker out of the parts bin, and installed a new tire/tube. Had to modify the brake plate to catch its stop on the swing arm. Got spacing right and installed the chain. Next was to refresh the clutches. First gear's cork friction material was shot and starting to fall apart. Grabbed a complete plug and play clutch i bought off a Mopedarmy member, only to find out he shipped me a clutch with 2 second gear clutches.. Luckily I had a set of brand new first gear clutch shoes. After wrestling the spring for a minute got it all back together and ready to install.
I've never pulled a a35 transmission, so after quick safety meeting and some reading I headed back down to the shop. After failing to get the trans lined up a couple times.. I got it all put back together, then realized i had 3 types of ATF, but no type F that's recommended for the corked clutches.
Did a couple small quick things; cleaned the 15mm carb and reinstalled it, replaced broken brake switches, and installed pedals
Here's the only photo i have after some work;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/6f9c8992-18a9-441b-8f03-ce3a5fc8ffe7_zpsd97600a5.jpg)
Also got a second to work on swapping the clutch over on my 2 speed noi. Unfortunatly I can't use the aftermarket BRN clutches in the 2 speed w/o a lot more work. The clutch hub on the aftermarket clutch is too thick to fit :cry: No time to try and find a NOS first gear clutch rubber. It would be so damn purdy in there too;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/2013-05-05_20-17-35_186_zpsf9a123f8.jpg)
I have always been fond of tomos, not sure why most of the moped community has some disdain. I know none of it stems form reliability I have never had an a35 let me down. Must be the vintage part or something. I'll snag some more pictures or magnum, all ratty as it sits now. Friend of mine just picked up a tri-ped ill see if I can snag some pictures of that too.
Almost got the piglet started yesterday via push starting in 2nd maybe 3rd gear. she was wanting to my inner techie says carb needs thorough cleaning :)
My magnum, just picked up another ped, Its orange and awesome. Ill get picks up soon
(http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa350/nabbiker3/20130506_135200.jpg) (http://s1193.photobucket.com/user/nabbiker3/media/20130506_135200.jpg.html)
methinks i may keep the pigdeux. spark was weak today. yet strong other time. so straighten teh electrical clusterflÜck and clean carb and go forwards.
Looks fun nab. Have only had 1 puch, and it was rough so i parted it to help build my honda hobbit up. Going to be looking for one after i finish the current projects
I feel ya yama on electrical clusters!! Finally gave up on trying to get the cdi ignition to cooperate with the points wiring harness. I pulled the cdi off and replaced it with a points setup off the other engine. Going to finish it up tonight hopefully, would love to have another runner. Didn't think it would get to me, but i'm sick of broke projects haha
A while back I pulled a dumb move on the rx50 project and put my aux tank on with 2 stroke mix. Forgot the rx still had a oil injector.. Swapped gas and kicked that thing at least 50 times before i gave up. Was in the shed today looking to see if i had a part, and decided to kick the rx50 over again. Started second kick and idled great!! :woohoo: then i ran out of gas in my aux tank..
Pumped to be stoked today. My new clutch rubber for the 2 speed garelli will be here. New cdi ignition for my brother project will be here by this weekend
WTF?!?!?!?!, my motobecanes ts50 engine has an oil tank. could thias be the case? ( am using premix as it is
If its got oil in it, that's definitely not helping!! I didn't swap my plug just let it dry off and it worked. So it sounds similar to your spark issue as well.
whati mean is, the engine is a suzi ts50. cap on crankcase for oil. same situation?
fackin a, it IS oil injected lol. okay time to drain the tank back into the goped can
Looks like the ts50 was indeed oil injected, but the cap on the crankcase is probably for your regular oil. The 2 stroke oil reservoir is #2 in this parts fiche;
(http://www.partzilla.com/images/diagrams/suzuki/09/161/00D04.png)
Hmm dont have that tank. does the line go on to engine block at the rear of it? toward the middle
Not sure on that yama, here's a thread (http://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=172805) on another forum showing photos of the pump, but I can't find a good photo of where this is on the engine. No good parts fiches on the oil injection system either.. Snap a couple photos and I'll try to help however I can. You can sometimes tell the oil injection hose from the rest also, its usually hardened from the age and covered in leaking oil haha(atleast is usually is on my 30+ year old shredpeds)
Got my latest order from the land of treats and was bummed they sent me the wrong garelli rubber clutch. Sent me a 1 speed noi clutch instead of the first gear clutch for the 2 speed engine. Shot them a e-mail and went wrenching. By the time I came back upstairs I had 3 e-mail from treats. 1st with an apology, 2nd saying they'd send me the right one asap with a return label, 3rd was shipping notification. DAMN those guys are fast at fixing anything, I'll always use treats for my ped parts!
Put a little more gas in the rx50 and started it again. It starts and idles, but then dies out after a bit. Also dies if you give it any throttle. I looked at the parts i bought off ebay and think she'll be sitting pretty decent after putting them all on. Low balled the seller since the parts had be there for a few months. Got all this (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/newrx50parts_zpsfeb611a7.jpg) for $70 shipped; clean carb with cable, both sides controls, a set of good levers(1 not photo'd, got him to toss it in extra :woohoo:), kick start lever, coil, recitfier, cdi box, another electrical component(regulator maybe?) Still need to give some attention to the front disk setup. Will probably need a new rotor and caliper..
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/2013-05-09_19-22-32_25_zpsc9786cfe.jpg)
So stoked i had another running. I went back to the hobbit and finished up the wiring. Swamped a different HT coil on, and tested to see if she had spark with the points ignition. BRIGHT blue spark kicking nicely :bowdown:
Connected throttle, decomp, brake cables, and tightened rear wheel to get some tension on the belt. Put a new b6hs plug in, and hooked up my aux tank with fresh 50:1 2t mix. Still don't have a my pedal chain on so i grabbed my drill to attempt a start. Pulled the decomp whipped it with the drill and she purred right to life!! Had trouble idling, but I'll pull the carb and do a full spit shine next.
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/2013-05-16_19-44-04_994_zps49b7b5cc.jpg)
Stoked on wrenching and projects again haha.. Been too long since something has worked out for me on the projects.
have to let the pgs sister go. shes leaving today. taking a big loss, but have to get on the road again via PMW ( goped ) but will start a new build soon enough.
Ahh sucks to hear yer takin a loss on the pigs sis.. It'll feel good to have a solid runner again, then there's always time to find a new project! Haha you can tell i'm addicted to this..
I got the new 1st gear clutch rubber installed in the LTD. 100% better!! Pulls great, shifts up and down smoothly, and doesn't bog at all on take off. I can stop on the steepest hill and pull off with pretty good speed. the 9/43 gearing is definitely helped. It's still temperamental on idle though. She likes to run up the rpms and won't idle w/o wheel spin. I'm at 17.5 on my idle jet so i can't go any lower.. Will do a bit more investigation.
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/1911cb96c28111e2a07e22000a1f9a28_7_zpsab1d4a0f.jpg)
My gf and I rode around for over an hour last night. Couldn't have been any happier. Stopped to get a bite to eat after which the LTD wouldn't start for me. Kicked till I was pissed off and gave the keys to my gf to go get my durango. As she was riding off, it dawned on me :oops: i was out of gas. flipped to reserve, rolled started it and she roared to life. Had a good laugh about that one haha
It was nice this morning and forecast looked low % on precipitation for the afternoon. So I pulled out the LTD on lunch, filled up with some fresh 50:1, and blasted her into work. Passed 3 cars on the way(a new record! haha) Now 2 hours later blackest storm cloud rolling in.. So i stashed the LTD up under the overhang of the office.
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/fa9041c4-4004-4fdc-8e2b-4914e09679a2_zps32d346d0.jpg)
And here comes the downpour haha, guess we'll see out the vm20's exposed filter does in the rain in a couple hours
The pig does alright in water. i run it w/o its filter cover. does okay. gripes a bit but she runs. so i guess i cannot complain. lol
Ride home wednesday was great!! A little wet, but the LTD ran strong. Rode for over an hour yesterday and got home just as the rain started to come down heavy. Got some gopro footy, i'll throw together a quick edit this weekend
Chilly and windy today, but not much rain so i brought her in this morning;

I used to have a Motobecane; they're great mopeds.
since i let the 78 go, am missing it. BUT ill find a frame and build one fropm ground up. hell could always put a briggs engine on it lol while building a proper engine.
Another project and 1 parts bike for $100. Project runs, need tubes/tires. Parts bike came with all missing parts, but engine is seized.

Where the frig you keepin all these at?, all the photos i see looks like a condo/apt. storage has to be at a premium
Nah my brother and I own our house here in radford. Now we don't have a friend renting our basement, I've claimed another room for my parts room haha. Also have my shed where i can store a few if the parts room is full. Parts room is stacked right now, I'll pull out the gopro and get a photo of the chaos
Some of those photos are at my office building and my gf's appt though
Thats what i was seeing lol. tis all good Eh?
indeed!! Tis all good expect this shaZam!;

All VA mopeds will be required to title and pay an annual fee for theirs moped or mopeds in my case.. The thing they don't mention is if peds will be required to have insurance and inspection as well. This might kill my joy of peds and limit me to having only a couple.
Some bullshit.. What's the point of paying for all that when I can spend nearly the same amount of money and have another motorcycle??
It will allow me to title and sell moped frames more easily to people in states with stricter titling laws. So that's a plus on my part out side, hell I may even see a surge in mopeds for sale due to the owner not wanting to pay for title/yearly registration
We'll see how this all pans out..
Ohio you have to register mopeds. There are some exceptions like motorized bikes (20cc and less) and if it's older, but just a way for the MAN to get more money.
Oh, and to add insult to injury, the state says it must be one of these models in order for it to be 'legal': http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/bmv4865.pdf
cop gave me hell over the pig. calling it a moped WHICH required to be titled. however i POLITELY informed him under TCA statute it is NOT a moped. OR a scooter. a moped in tn is defined having a seat and pedals, a scooter, seat only. the pig has neither one. stand up only. COULD be construed as a scooter if i installed a seat kit on it. if i did, id just have to stand up every time i saw a cop.
Moped laws seem to be better than I thought. I'm going to the DMV today to title a project frame as a test run.
25mph or less peds riding on 25mph roads will be exempt from all fees/titling. This works for my gf who can ride 25 mph roads to/from work. She'll just have to watch her speed(her tomos tops out ~39mph haha). Unfortunately there aren't any 25 mph roads to get me to/from my office so I will end up having to title at least 1 of mine.
Same 35mph max speed limit for all peds, but they are cutting us a break on fees!!
Quote from: DMV Moped ExcerptDMV will not require/collect the following for mopeds:
-Hybrid fee
-Insurance
-Odometer reading
-Safety inspection
-Sales and use tax (You will still have to pay retail sales tax if you purchase a moped in Virginia. Mopeds are exempt from personal property tax)
So just a $10 title fee and $20 a year for registration. Still sucks if I want to title and ride all of mine, but at least they aren't reaming us too bad.
Got
my shop cleaned up and organized after finishing wrenching on Gabby. Next on the list is to get the parts room whipped into shape. Will be working on the shed(parts bin) after I get the parts room finished. Here's where I house most of my broke ass mopedZ haha;

Under the table are boxes and boxes of parts. The closet behind where i'm taking the photo contains all my shipping materials for parting out.
My gf and I rode around for over an hour last night. Couldn't have been any happier. Stopped to get a bite to eat after which the LTD wouldn't start for me. Kicked till I was pissed off and gave the keys to my gf to go get my durango. As she was riding off, it dawned on me i was out of gas. flipped to reserve, rolled started it and she roared to life. Had a good laugh about that one haha
I had an annie sportster ( 2003) why i bought the sticker for the helmet said "turn the gas on dummy" was used to the gs' valve. once i did the engine work on the gs that was no longer an issue. wondering if one of those pipes would work on the pig. lmk if youve got any pipes for sale Eh?
Well I flipped that latest tomos pair for 3 times what I paid. It went to another moped friend so i tossed in a few of my older parts bins to sweeten the deal.
I had to sell 2 to make room for the 1 I was ready to buy;

A sexy 1975 Garelli Eureka Flex. Got it from a cool old war vet over the weekend. Came with a complete 1 speed noi, parts noi engine with radial cylinder, and a good used polini(70cc) setup. Got a running engine in the shop ready to drop on this one. It'll stay 50cc for a bit, while i work out the kinks, then a 70cc kit and aftermarket clutch. Stoked to finally get a step through style!
Wanna sell me the polini? the pig would love it. polini goped conversions are easy. ive already got the engine mount for it
Don't think i can let this polini go yama.. Had to give the PO a bit more than i wanted for the project(can't stomach low balling someone who needs the cash more than me..) So i have 1/2 my initial investment tied up in the polini to help meet the budget on this project. I have everything else i need to get it running, except maybe an ignition setup. I'm going to rebuild it as a 50cc for now. Then one of the 1 speed engines will get a full rebuild and heavy case matching to squeeze as much out of the polini as possible.
The pipe dream on this build is to get a 50cc malossi reed kit for it and try to push it as hard as possible. That kit is $200+ so it'll be a while before i head down that road.
Polini's pop up every now and then on MA though, I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya. Still haven't seen a single decently priced pipe, might have to wait until winter to get a good deal on that.
No worries :) I thought id try ;)
Haha, yup never hurts to ask :cheers:
Did a little mileage tracking on the LTD to see how it looked. I got a week of commuting and handful of longer rides with most all of it at WOT. Got a spit more gas in the tank i'm going to squeeze as many miles out as I can. As it sits now I've got 56 miles to this tank, which the tank only holds .8 of a gallon haha. So if my rusty math is correct. I'm right at 70mpg's, much better than i thought i was getting with the big cylinder and carb.
Was a riot popping little wheelies on the LTD for the gs picture game, so i'll whore out my gif here as well haha;

Picked up a complete a55 tomos engine for my brother project ped. Hopefully well get it installed this weekend
Will most likely be trailering back my first 50cc Suzuki after work! a Suzuki FZ-50.
Its in my hometown about 30 minutes away, so I rode over to check it out friday. It is running, complete, nothing too smashed, but needs sear recovered. Seller wasn't budging on the price so i rode off, got the call this morning to come back haha. Its the closest to a scooter look w/o being a scooter.. Only things still classifying it as a moped(technically a Noped) is the use of bare tube frame and pegs as opposed to a floorboard.
Seller's photos;

Its too funny! I started it up and rode around the block last night. Needs a key for locks(ignition, tank, and steering) and the lights need some attention.

Looks like barrels of fun.
Have plans for it?
Not 100% on what i'd like to do with it. I traded my yamaha rx50 for 2 pistols. Then traded one of the pistols for this fz50.
First thought was to build a stupid silly sleeper. After a bit of digger, I can get a nice expansion chamber, 60cc kit, and big carb on it. Unfortunately that will only net me +10 mph on the top end(making it ~40mph top speed) Gearing is super tough to find as they use a funky sprocket and there are no available aftermarket gearing choices. So i would dump a bunch of money in aftermarket to have a decent ped. OR I can try and trade it again and see where that gets me
I've never traded before this, and it has been a pretty fun ride. Turned 1 moped into a pistol and another moped. So i may keep it stock, give it a spit shine, new seat cover, and ride it as is until i find my next trade up

Sweet! :thumb: I remember seeing quite a few 125cc conversions when I was looking for one..... just sayin :cool:
Check out this rad ped (not mine) It's got a 4 stroke Lifan motor but I love the look.

Sooo the owner could get a sticker/s made for it calling it a puchina lol. got to be fun to ride though
That is one of the better looking lifan swaps i've seen! Just not my style.. I'm hooked on 2 strokers and squeezing everything i can out of them.
Got the MB started! Didn't even clean the carb, just put my aux tank on and kick it over maybe 5 times.
Gave her the first bath in probably 5+ years

So far I have purchased a cheap cr80 engine, front master cylinder and caliper for parts, and will be ordering a clutch lever next order to treats. Have some free time tonight and will be down there all day/night after work. Planning to pull the carb for a spit shine, change trans oil, new plug, and round 2 on cleaning.
I'll be brapping this beast around the block soon!
That has to be the coolest lookin' little bike i've ever seen! Shame they never sold em here in oz or i'd have snatched one up for sure! :)
Maybe it's a bit off topic but it seems appropriate to stick this in here. I thought you might wanna see my sexy little '68 Suzuki AS50.
As found... A bit worn and weathered eh? But she's a runner and 100% original. 99.9% complete.
Suzuki designers at the time were obviously influenced by the Italian designs of the '50's -early '60's... Ducatis etc, (look at that seat cowl) and this is the rare sports version of the more common A50.
Gotta laugh...

haha love it. id rive the ol as50 as is, and not remove the rust. its a survivor for sure :)
LOVE that AS50! Thanks for posting and feel free to post any/all you have!!
That's awesome is original and running! I'd love to break into the 60's, but they get expensive around here
Well I've cleaned off most of the loose rust and treated it so it doesn't go any further, but I couldn't afford the chrome plating anyway so it'll have to stay as it is!

Been too long since I updated with my latest picks.
Last left off wrenching on the mb5. Rebuilt its clutch and had it running/riding, sold it to girl a few towns over. Here's a vid of me testing it around the neighborhood;
Finally got consistent spark on my brother's tomos;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/6f9c8992-18a9-441b-8f03-ce3a5fc8ffe7_zpsd97600a5.jpg)
Got the honda hobbit running/riding and sold it to a guy a few towns north.
Picked up a moby 50v for a friend of a friend;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_5429_zps70194dde.jpg)
Fixed another 50v for a previous customers friend;

Kitted the Garelli Flex for a bit, but pulled the parts back off for my other garelli.
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_20131026_164702_442_zps87c67e84.jpg)
Traded my 80 garelli ssxl LTD (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/fbae414ac47b11e29dbe22000a1fb6d1_7_zps73552942.jpg) for a kitted tomos + cash. Normally would have laughed at this trade, but I'm on a mission to thin out the old non runners. Named her The General;

Picked up a rough tomos, and ended up parting it out to make back my initial investment. Still have a stack of parts for my current tomos(General);

Most recent is a couple crusty frames i picked up for cheap. Was after the garelli frame to rebuild with my 2 speed engine setup. Guy ended up throwing in a moby frame and stack of other spare parts. Here's the frames in the moto picker;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/IMG_20131210_211315_503_zpsf595225c.jpg)

Those MB5's are cool. Tiny sport bikes! There have been a few at Backfire Moto. Once in a while one shows up for sale. Considering they were sold here for maybe one year, they're cool to still find one.
damn i want lol
A few more have come and gone
Sold the Garelli Flex to a friend of a friend looking to get into peds;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/bfe2ec8a256811e3b8a622000a1fbdb1_7_zpsfe015178.jpg)

Bought a pair of barn fresh Columbia Commuters. Sold the more complete one, parted the other out;
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/01_new%20buckets/IMG_20140209_212107_247_zpse227a77b.jpg)

Picked this up last night. A rolling frame with mag wheels. This is the frame I'll build my 80cc Gila project (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/01_new%20buckets/IMG_20140217_183051_325_zps45cf5ee9.jpg) on.
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/01_new%20buckets/photo1-3_zps2a3ea470.jpg)
Got the tomos mags spaced and mounted on the ssxl. Got the new clutch setup back, just need to tune carb, time ignition and then test fire!
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/01_new%20buckets/IMG_20140214_161255_169_zpsf83e0ee8.jpg)
wouldn't mind getting my hands on a ped engine for the huffy. course i do have the 6hp subaru. aka the buffyhus
Have several Tomos' myself. Just sold my '67. They are so easy to work on and so many parts interchange. Building one into a cafe racer/track bike at the moment. Bunch of fun to ride/work on and they are cheap to buy.
Besides my GS here are some other toys:

alan, you and steezin both have a NICE ped stash. if i had time left id build one
Dang. I kind of want a moped now.
Hell yeah Alan, definitely a nice collection you have brewin! You mess with any other 2 smokers?
down the road consider selling me a frame Eh? I know they don't weigh much. naked anyways. will grab one of those sachs engines from you, and prep it for the huffy project. picked up a new Kevlar whitewall at thrift store for like 2? so all parts are almost there. I get that engine, a matchin wheel for the huffy, so I have 3 wheels running whitewalls on the trike frame. and that sachs engine freshened up, id be good :)
I only mess with Tomos mopeds (well and a lot of other full size motorcycles). I have several frames in the shop. If you are ever in NC you are welcome to pick one up for free. It is not worth shipping one.
I just picked up another one on Craigslist Sunday for $50.00. It's a bit rough but I rode it up and down the street when I got home. I can't believe they would cost much more in your area.
Bare tomos' frames will ship for cheap via usps. Shipping one with the front end jacks the price up quite a bit.
Alan, good to hear prices are still low down that way. People are starting to ask ridiculous prices around here. I can still find a good deal here and there. I am always looking to pick up cheap projects. If you ever see any down that way and you're not looking to pick it up, bounce me a PM and I'll be down there to swoop it up for sure. Really looking to get back into variated transmissions; Honda Hobbits(pa50i and pa50ii's), any/all derbi's, and I always have my eyes peeled for any cheap Garelli.
Do you go to any rallies? I've always thought it would be nuts to brap with a huge group around the cities.

awesome on the shipping this was on my mind. if you ever find a frame lmk looking at building one up at some point. on general schwein, im going to work lights into her and a horn using a battery from a coirdless drill ( prolly 14.4v+) anyhoo my friend enough threadjacking eH?
Never enough (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/smilin/hijack.gif)!!
I'll definitely keep an eye out. I had a line on a stack of tomos' but the fella had a bit invested and didn't want to take my regular low ball of $100 for a non title/non runners haha..
last I checked the weight of the frames was somewhere around 35lbs naked sans front end? and sans wheels and engine etc. just bare frame
You can tell I have way to much time on my hands.
Couple of Moped mods just for fun.

haha nice
Nice Alan! I'm still just bolting stuff together with welding help from a friend when hardware just won't cut it(new brake stays for the tomos mags on the garelli). Hoping to take my 80cc Gila setup the whole way - Front disc brake, hydraulic front end, welded in top tube for structural rigidity, and the dream of doing a custom sprocket/disc brake for the rear (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/01_new%20buckets/sprocketbrake2_zps8f73aa1c.jpg)

Yeah yama the tomos bare frame is light, probably less than 35lbs. Its the box size that drives the price. If you don't squeeze the box just right it kicks over into USPS' "very large" package rate which hikes the price from $25-35 to ~$65!
Restocking for the summer;

hory mory! :confused:
Yesterday was a good day for Death Rattle!!
Sold 4 of the 11 in that last photo for 90% of what I have invested. Looks like I'll get to keep that Urban Express(nu50) and will still turn enough profit to fund my next ped pick
Got home with some motivation. Tied the last few loose ends up on the Garelli and got to hear her run for the first time in 2 years!
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll129/steezin_and_wheezin/steezin_and_wheezin014/firststart_zps649d8200.jpg)
She brapped to life and purred OK. Gave her a few heat cycles then putted around the neighborhood to start setting the rings. Still have to dial it in to get 100% tuned, and a few little ghetto rigs I need to polish off. I have too much time/money in this one, feels good to finally kick her over.
That's a great feeling. Tradition is a jig dance when I get one to brap brap brap,....heheh
Haha yup, definitely busted a little boogie :woohoo:
Oh yeah, my 'mission success' dance!! Its an elusive creature hardly ever showing its face, but when it is spotted laughter, celebration, and high levels of stoked factors can be observed. :icon_lol:

She stands tall. Nearly 4-5 inches taller and over 6 inches longer than my Garelli.

Took me 2 years of it on my line to finally reel her in. This is 1 of 2only 5 Sapporo bikes built by a company in CA called Moto-Matic. She's a little rough, needs transmission rebuilt and a lot of TLC. I will shine her up all minty and then will make her as fast as possible.
Here's a cool video they made to explain the build

Whoa... I didn't know Tomos exported their mopeds to USA.
A friend of mine has 20 or more of them (various types and models) in his collection.
Sent from my toilet seat using HTC FartPhone
Yup, we have tons on Tomos' here. Sounds like a pretty killer collection. Have any photos of the lot?
Here are a couple of photos taken off his FB profile, but next time I pay him a visit, I'll try to photo all of them... :thumb:
He also has a couple of Puchs and MZs, but that's another story... :icon_mrgreen:

ShredPed madness is still going strong here. Love my little oil burners. Over 170 bikes sold and enjoy time with each one. Took a little while to get my bearings down and all the tools/parts unpacked from moving into our new house a couple years back.
My last pick up and last one sold
$100 tomos pick from right across town. Will be cleaned up and sold off after I finished a couple other bikes from the heard

A Derbi flatreed ripper I sold to a fella in NE. Crated it up and shipped via freight. Messing with wood has me itching (pun not intended) to get some more sawdust flying!
