hey i just bought myself a 1992 gs500E with 25 000 miles, i had a few questions on power mods and the body of the bike, are there any free or cheap fast power mods, anything in the stock exhaust ect. i also wanted to know what the difference from a slip on exhaust and a full exhaust and what would you recommend? or anything else that could give me more power, i found a few post on jetting but im not sure were to buy them? what are the first things i need to change for more power. i live in Canada so shipping could be expensive.
now for the body part, i was looking to change the handle bars to ProTaper ones, i believe all i need is a 7/8 bar? also, do you guys no of any crash cages for stunting? or should i just put sliders? (also were to put them)i love this bike, the only down side is the tail lights, i want them to look more like a sports bike, any ideas were to buy a light or make myself one? i also have a rear SV650 rim, will it fit on it? it seems as if it would fit but just!,
i also noticed online that gs500 are 6 speed bikes? mine seems to have only 5? what should the rpm of my bike be? it seems to have high rpms on the highway
THANKS!!! :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:
also wanted to know how to add a finger rear break on the left, and how to change the foot pegs, both passanger and driver
if transmission is working completely, it DOES have 6 speeds. 1 down and 5 up. unless somethign is amiss.
i used a gsxr 1k. wedge can stock on my last gs. sans baffle had a nice rumble to it.
What do you meen wedge stock?
Is it bolt on? Does it give more porformance?
idk about more performance, seemed like it did. but then again i had also switched gears up front. so i honestly couldnt tell you.

check out renntec crash bars for the gs500, kind of expensive though :thumb:
btw a gs500 is not the motorbike equivalent of a honda civic.
People dont generally buy one and then do a buncha mods to get Moah Powah.
1 or 2 hp here and there, sure. but nothing significant. it's more about bragging rights than anything else.
(Not unless you're planning to put a WHOOLE bunch of money and effort into turbos and things, that is. There's no kit for that sort of stuff, it's all custom, Hence, time and $$$)

at least with teh gs its not like a civic, being that people had seen too fast, too furious, too many times. our beloved gs is a capable machine in the right hands. wont get you into trouble unless you go looking for it.
Ok that answers the preformence part, just wanted more power in the low rpms, , do you guys know of a cheap slip on that makes the bike sound great and loud?, also wanted to know about the foot pegs and the tail lights, and it the protape handle bars will work bolt on, and also a easy way to make a hand break, or is there such thing as a bolt on rear end without weldiing anything? Oh, the previuose owner has a dent on the tank, it does not seem poppable should i bondo it? And is it possible to put a wider tire in the rear with stock rim? I have also a spaire sv650. Rim but seems like its a tad too wide!
Thanks!
get ahold of adidasguy, hes finishing a build on an EX500 has a muzzy exhaust he replaced. bot sure if it is for sale. the wedge can i used, made it louder, just not obscene ;) and it was cheap at the time. maybe 60-65 shipped.

I'm no expert, but I seem to recall that "for stunting", people sometimes change one of the sprockets for more low-end torque.
'course, there's no such thing as a free lunch, so you'll throw away efficiency on the high end for that.

yup to gain torque, short of nitrous or a supercharger which IS possible, gearing is the option. IIRC stock is 16t up front. ( you have a choice to go down up front, or up in rear. either one will gain low end torque but sacrifice top speed. well you WONT but to hit same speed will run @ higher RPMs. i went from 16t up front ( which is easiest swap to do) down to a 14t

what do you meen by wedge? and i wanna spend around 200$ max on an exhaust? i also want a better sound than stock, i only here the motor running, whats the size of the pipes? will any slip on work? i found a sv650 slip on would that work?unless its the whole thing. will it realy make a difference? also would a dynojet good? ive played around with jets when i had a scooter, but would this be easyer just put in and go? thanks!
im also wondering should i put a 15 tooth or a 14? i love the ideo of the 14 but i do lost of highway, and like to roll around 120 kmh/ 75 milles hour,? and were could i find clean sportyer foot pegs? that look more decent and less bulkey, and the rear light/flashers and plate? thanks!
also looking for a hand break without the extra caliper, i check on the site the stunt factory, but everything are for sport bikes, idk if it will fit my gs500
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2efIWY2QnM
i want my bike to sound like this! but for cheap aha
i found a 2 inch slip on only the end pipe, should i get it ? yoshimura 150$
I'm running 15t/41t, which is almost the same as 14t/39t, and am able to hit 105 indicated. You will be able to get to 75 with the 14t and stock rear.
But the gs500 is not really a good stunt bike at all...but you will want to raise your idle to 3k for stunting and probably run 14t/45t gearing for it to wheelie easily (sort of). Crash cage necessary, sliders on axles. No clue on the rear hand brake, you would probably be the first to do so. If you are serious about stunting, get an old (early 2000's) I-4 and go from there. There are stunt parts everywhere for them and they actually have the capability to stunt.
Look through the wiki for most of the questions you have. It is your friend and has most information on available mods and jetting info.

mmm yup .. something with grunt .. :dunno_black:
14 tooth sprocket!!! Cheap as hell and will increase your low end tremendously. I'd start there. Mine was $11
Yea i wantsd a f4i but were i live its 1300$ to plate it a year, thats why im nit buying a sports bike, no i wanted to know hoe i could get any exhaust to fit my bike, i found a slip on but its 50mm
what would you guys think of a 15 sprocket?
Never just had a 15 with stock, always had it with the 41. but 15/41 is decently meaty down low. i would use 14/39 if ya wanna stunt worth a damn
moved to GD forum.

but i also doo a lot of highway, its more for stunting on that Sunday mornings or when i have nothing better to do you know?
this is what i use to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6V-j1wHW7k
what do you think of a slip on? i found something like this will i need a dynojet kit or i could wait? i would get some slip on like this

guys know of any lights that would look good on it? more angled and less sqaure, also clear would be nice!~ O0
also looking for descreat mirrors but with the ones for bar ends, wont they break if i ever drop the bike?
Could you guys send me a link to some jets, dyno jets are 70$ plus shipinh witch is way to expensive for jets, i use to get them for like 5$ each, and what would you recomend as a starting poing for a slip on exhaust, i also wont be putting a p-flow i find its been useless in the past, what do you guys think? !
What tail lights would fit in this bulky hole? i found a few ATV lights but the light seems to small for the hole ??
Look on the wiki for proper jets for your year, then go to ebay and get them from nichecycles

Here are the mains for 01+
R1 taillight swap is pretty popular here.
Late '98 through '01 work I think . Here is mine..
with my setup listed below not once did I very feel the front end even get light. Your going to want the smallest front and the largest rear sprockets you can get. There are videos on youtube he is running IIRC 14/50 setup
Ya if you want the front end to lift at will you are going to need a pizza sized rear sprocket on there....
A 15 tooth a K&N, V&H and a light tank of gas and I could power wheelie at 6000ish RPM... 14T/45 would make it easy to pull up.

well i only weigh 145 lbs, and right now the bike is stock and i can make it lift with the clutch, im going to buy a 14 sprocket, and if i need more ill buy the rear one, for the jets im still not sure, i will only have a slip on from a sv650... and no p-flow, unless it gives performence? and for the lights, there better but i still find them to big, i want something more at an angle,. same angle as the shape... i was looking into painting my bike mat black, with tremclad flat black, ive painted my helmet and bike with it and has turned out great
is it possible to have a wider tire in the back?. and still cant find foot pegs

i have but everyone has different jet sizes and nothing like mine, i just want a slip on exhaust what jet should i get, aha and the footpegs, there only 1 how to and i dont want those foot pegs, i have read threw everything before posting this, i would just like your input thanks!
i just cant seem to find what im looking for, the pipe probliem has been solved, i wont need to jet it with only a slip on, now im still trying to find a nice looking tail light or a different rear end without sodering anything , some crash bars, foot pegs, anyone know if the tank is undentable? or should i just bondo it up? thanks ! also still cant find anything on hand breaks :/
For foot pegs you could use the GSXR foot pegs like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-foot-rests-for-Suzuki-GSXR-600-750-1000-B-KING-Rider-Passenger-foot-pegs-/230931290851?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AGSXR&hash=item35c493dae3&vxp=mtr
Or the TLS 1000 foot pegs, I believe like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-SV650-GSXR-600-750-1000-1100-TL-TLR-BILLET-PEGS-/370801170465?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item565578d821&vxp=mtr
I did the GSXR pegs and they work really good. Just a few simple modifications are needed to make them fit.
Im also looking for round mirriors just like bar end mirriors, but me it it to put before the grips, i cant seem to find any on ebay
throwing it out there now, this forum is one of the nicest i have seen... this thread a perfect example. No offense to the OP but you seem to just be reposting the same 3 questions over and over. It was mentioned before this bike isn't a civic, there isn't a large wealth of aftermarket parts be it old or new, finding a slipon to fit your year and make is going to take time researching inlet sizes and matching them to your own. The jet question can be answered simply by using the wikki and your bike year and model if all else fails, try it see what happens. Dont continuously repost the same question hoping someone will have a miracle of a response for you. The bike hes more then a few swing-arm swaps and to be 100% honest anything is possible with enough time and money. I can think of more then a few builds on this forum alone that display that. But the main point really is, this isnt a stunting bike, can you stunt it, sure. but watching your videos of the scooter you make me a tad nervous as far as "stunting" your full size motorcycle. get a handle for the machine and then upgrade according to your comfort, your lack of knowledge on the entire topic seems a bit unnerving...
Sorry i had to be the duck. :*(
If you put a rear hand brake on the gs500, you would be the first.
I put cbr900rr rear sets on mine. I had to make a bracket and had to use parts from several different bikes to get the shifting linkage to fit. It was a real biatch, but I like it very much now and I dig the reverse shift pattern. Further back and a hair higher.
They make an integrated tail light that can be found on ebay. Might have to do some soldering.
This bike would make a terrible commuter bike if it were to be make a semi capable stunting bike.
There are engine guards available for this bike: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0&_nkw=gs500+crash+cage&_sacat=0&_from=R40

This is why i am taking my time and trying to find the best parts for me and informing myself better, i jusr dont want yo buy aomething and relize i could of got something better..for the stunting part, i just got the bike, parts take a month to recive, then instal and all that i go to work with it everyday, dont worry, i know i go step by step when i learn something. Im just trying to informe myself better
You will also need to turn the oil pump pickup around as it faces the front of the motor in original location it will not pickup oil on the rear wheel.
Note that the bike he is using as an example has about 3 times the power that a GS does, again its possible you just need a large pizza sized rear sprocket :)
Also would i be good with just a cage or sliders, and were should i mount them an witch ones? Thanks again
I also cant seem to find mirroirs like these on ebay, www.dual-star.com/index2/Equipment/adjustable_mirror.htm looking for this but more of a clamp and not ehat they use, i have seen bar end ones, but the guy says they dont fit in the middle of the bar
Youre probably gonna want both. its tough to make the gs500 do low speed wheelies, so if you go down it will probably be a speed, so i would say both

Yes indeed i only wish o having a little cbr 600 or something of thatsort,, getting a viper slip on tonight from a sv650 lets hope i can fix it to make it fit aha
just got a viper slip on exhaust from a sv650, now i gotta find a way to make it fit, the pipe is 55mm,,, a little too big, any tips to make it fit or should i just give it to an exhaust shop?
If you know welding , have some patience and have a reasonable toolkit etc ... Then I reckon possible ..
Otherwise.. Get all the mounts/attachment points for the actual can sorted out yourself... Or as best you can.... Then take to shop so they can just zip zip zap and it's done... If you wander in with a puzzled expression and a loose can in one hand and finger pointing at bike with other.... Ka! _ Ching!!!

yea, the only probliem is that the can is 55mm and gs is 45mm... im just hesitant on were to ccut the pipe, incase it needs a bend in the adapter piece.
also im looking to order footpegs like these http://www.ebay.com/itm/230931290851?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 but i want to order 2 sets so i can have for front and rear, will it fit?? i want matching pairs front back i realy like these..
also gonna buy a protaper handle bar over the weekend :D
also looking for hids, what lights do these bikes have h4?
The absolute BEST power mod? I'm willing to bet losing 20-30 lbs is probably the best "mod" for performance.
Yes H4 globes...
10 mm diff in pipe, err you gonna need some type of tapered thingie then... Or take your 45mm piece only to a exhaust/engineering shop and get them to bell it out to 55mm ... I think an expand on the pipe is easier than tighten the can end?
Or just get a quote for the job and decide if its worth it for you
I dont think the adapter has the right angle?
i will also be getting an easy pull clutch lever but im not sure what will fit? what is the size i will need? is it universal? are the break levers also universal? thanks!

today i took off from a red light and oil starting spiting out of the oil filter cap, all over my back wheel.. anyways after it spining i pulled over and it was pissssing oil, i turned it off and had a little leak, i opend it up and noticed the o ring was a little damanged, (probably from not putting it in properly? now i put the old one in and so far so good, im going to have to go try it again.. i added a little too much oil 3.5 litres, could this be the cause or the oring? thanks!!
from what I understand, putting too much oil in will cause the pressure to be too high in the engine. So maybe a combination of too much oil and improperly placing the oring.

ok man i have the same bike and i made everything crash bars 12 bar and and i run a 50 tooth steel sproket on the rear but be ready for the long haul bro hang in there it can be done

I'll reiterate what others have said. You'll need an enormous rear sprocket to make the bike "stuntworthy" and in doing so, you'll completely remove any possibility of riding it on the highway.
The problem is that the GS has a steel frame which makes it extremely heavy for its size. Couple that with a motor that only generates modest power and you have the makings of a very GOOD bike, but also very tame.
Another thing is if you plan to do stoppies and that sort of thing, the front suspension isn't nearly as hearty as on some other bikes. You'll probably ruin the forks if you do too many stoppies.
how can i remove the suzuki stickers? i know heat gun and all, but it seems almost as if there is clear on top of it?, i also have a smal dent maybe 1-2 inches high , 3-4 inches long, and has a little rust on it,

i customized a 2009 R1 muffler to fit my stock piping. it sounds really really good and is plenty loud. i actually wish it were quiter. its a pretty free flowing muffler and doesnt have much restriction but is also built for the R1. It has a valve inside that is supposed to hook up to the throttle cable on the r1 to open and close to help with back pressure, but honestly makes no difference other than sound on my bike. i dont know how much it would be to get something similar as i got my for free from a motorcycle mechanic friend of mine but any muffler will fit with the right fab work.
Yea i got it to fit, onlything is it pops out a little to much to the side, how could i bend it inwards?, also, could i have all info on rear breaks? Hose size, how could i add a junction valve to Add a hand break? Do they have the same breaks as older gsxr? This is to find a hand break that would fit, just orderd a universal easy pull lever, lets hopenit fits
Any idea on the frame trex sliders, sais it fits 04 and up? He is not sure About earlyer years... Were could i get one shipped in canada?
For some reason now when im on the highway going between 5k-6k rpm, the bike seems to miss gas on the highway, if i role over 6k the bike is fine?? This only happens around 60 mph ??? Need help fast thanks!! Just gassed with super and put a 14 tooth sproket
Were you low on gas at the time? If you were it could have been the lower inlet on the tank petcock all gunked up and not letting as much gas through.
no full gas, but i did have wind in my face, my brother told me it could of been because there was to much air being sucked in???
That's an interesting thought, where would the air be sucked in from though? I feel like that's a rather slight chance.
there can be a slight hesitation in the 5-6k range... above 6 is where the power comes on really... 4k is kinda for cruisin low speed... depends on what gear you in when the hesitation is there.. . if its 6th then the bike can feel a little like its pausing... click down a gear or 2 and try that out...
no matter what though... this is not a injected litre bike!! .. there is plenty of useable power... and a few minor flat spots.... it is what it is! :dunno_black:
rejet to a meatier mid range
Yes only happens in 6th gear, as soon as im in the 5-6 k spot it does as if i was running low on gas, but over 6k its fine, coming back home i put the pertcok up and i dint realy feel it, but then again i did not use the highway, plus there was less wind... I have a 14 tooth sprocket and added a sv650 newmodel slip on (viper)
You need to have a look at your jetting, GS's didnt come out of the factory with flat spots.
