Title: Clip-on Bars and R6 Throttle
Post by: angusgst on April 22, 2013, 12:31:18 AM
I recently converted my GS500e to clip-on bars and installed the R6 throttle twister. I can confirm that both of these mods are feasible and work as expected.

These are the bars I bought. You have to drill a 5mm hole in them to accept the locating pin for the controls.

This is the throttle twister I installed. It has a flat on the end which you have to saw off.

To ensure the headlight mounts fit beneath the clipon mounts I modified them by removing ~4cm of length from each one. I cut the sections out with a hacksaw and then welded the remainder back together with a stick welder. Afterwards I repainted with black spray-paint. Consequently the headlight and indicators sit about 2cm lower than stock.

So, what's it like? The position is completely different, a racing crouch almost rather than the standard relaxed, upright position. The throttle is more difficult to turn (because you have to perform the same amount of work against the throttle spring but over less of a turn) but not annoyingly so. It definitely allows full throttle to be reached more easily, and you don't have to re-position your hand.

I ran those same bars and tube for some time and never had issues. Great setup IMO

Where are pictures with the new headlight mounting?

I hope what you just sold me are actual Vortex clip ons, as stated in your add, and not cheap Chinese knock-offs like posted here.  Although they look to be an exact replica, who knows what quality metals were used and what the factory tolerances are.
