Hey guys,
Now that I've got a GS500, I'm looking to convert it to a solo seat, though hoping for some input from riders with (recent) experience on the process. I've looked around but can't seem to find any rear seat cowls for the GS500, but have read a couple posts of people getting it done & have left the rear portion of the seat intact.
I understand the general procedure of having to remove the rear pegs (drill out threads, but apparently everyone leaves the threads intact & just take out the pegs), also having the remove the rear portion of the seat so it can't seat a 2nd rider.
If anyone has any feedback on their experience getting this done (or alternative methods), would be great.
Bikes location is Springfield, QLD (west of Bris)

I got mine done at Express Motorcycles in Ipswich. Had to remove the rear pegs and I had a seat cowl that I purchased from adidasguy on this forum. Pretty straightforward. They rivet a plate onto your frame and you go to Main Roads to fill out some forms.
Take your pegs out and the grab rail off. And depending on who you go to it depends on what you do with the seat. Obviously you'd go with the guy who gives the best price and says you can leave your seat intact. Did mine this way and no problems.

thanks Coda :). I saw his site before which is where I got most the info on what needs to be done from, though I think I've read a couple people have gone through him (or someone similar) and gotten away with keeping the seat intact & just turning the ventura rack (which I have) around covering over the rear portion of the seat (I know that way is a no-no). :\

I heard/read that putting it on the frame is bad as putting holes in the frame weakens it ?? I'll message Adidasguy to see if he still sells them, though I think I did read somewhere he didn't sell them anymore ?

Thanks :), that way would be more ideal as I haven't had luck with a rear cowl. May I ask who you went through & how much you paid at the time ??

I forget the price but I was living in Ipswich at the time and got it done at pro westside motorcycles west Ipswich. You said you live near springwood? Check out this bloke he does great work and his solo seat price is quite reasonable http://www.ozracing.biz (http://www.ozracing.biz)
Brian Harper - who you've been recommended already. If he comes over and Inspects your stuff and passes it off, he will issue the required paperwork. Just then go to the Dept Trans with our paperwork. But go in your car - just in case. No-one will probably bother inspecting it because you already have the correct paperwork signed off as legit.
I didn't go to single seat rego, I converted a bike back to dual seat. Brian inserted a compliance plate under the seat and I was then free to reattach my pegs.
I went with Brian instead of Ozracing as suggested by Ozracing at the time - work schedules, etc., plus Brian comes to you, wherever you are.
I highly recommend Brian Harper... he did my roadworthy and conversion back to dual seat compliance. Very friendly, helpful, and realistic fella...

Sounds like Brian Harper is the way to go, Ill give him a call & see what he says (especially regarding the seat ) & get a cost.
Those that did get their GS500 solo seat converted, how did you go about changing the seat ? Did you find a seat cowl or just leave that space empty ?

Left it as is. Advice I recieved was a cowl helps but not necessary. If you get caught or crash with a pillion it's your nightmare
