Title: HELP!! bike wont run.
Post by: batchild101 on April 25, 2013, 08:26:38 AM
hello all, i need help solving a problem with my bike not running. short story i bought the bike a few months back, it did run poorly but did run. so i have had to do a cpl mods to it because it was neglected. i can get it to start with choke on full but sometimes dies on its own or when i try to apply the throttle. i have cleaned carbs best i can without taking them apart. battery is fully charged. i had to remove petcock and ran one line from gas tank to carb. fuel line is on reserve side and blocked reg outlet.  any suggestions? thanks

Yep - your carbs need cleaned. Properly.

Drain and put in good gas. Gas goes bad.
Drain carb bowls and let them refill with good gas (i.e. PRIME setting for a minute or two)

I had the same issue, started on choke and died or bogged out when I twisted the throttle. Get rebuild kits and some carb cleaner and get at it. I found out my pilot on one side was clogged and wouldn't come out, the screw head was stripped. I used a twistie tie I shaved down with my knife, and duct taped it to a thin driver, and kept trying till it was cleared. After that and the rest of the rebuild it was good as new and runs fine.

With another carb bike i did Boiling in Lemon Juice for 20 mins, then Boiling in distilled Water for 20 mins(also make sure your jets, etc, are thoroughly cleaned)............worked perfect.
Rarely is a rebuild kit necessary.

thank you all, i am going to try and remove them and try the boiling trick. im just afrai to try and completely take them  apart because the screws are very tight. if boiling doesnt work i will try full breakdown and rebuild. as soon as i can figure out how to post pics of my bike from my phone i will.

You only boil your carbs AFTER u have taken them COMPLETELY apart...in other words only boil the aluminium body to clean out all the internal passageways.
The other parts(EXCLUDING the float) can be placed in the same boiling pan & boiled together.
I cleaned the jets, etc, with wooden tooth picks and spray carb cleaner after that but it's probably not necessary.

Yesterday, i had the same problem, started on choke and died or bogged out when I twisted the throttle. i removed the Cab from bike, took the float bowl off, clean all the jets with cab cleaner, put it back and started easy without touch on choke.
