Over the past few days a strange squeaking noise has appeared on the left top side of the bike but only between 3500 and 4500 rpm I can't put my finger on what it is
Tapits maybe
Anyone got any ideas
tank rubber is sqeeking on the frame is my guess. Does it go away if you put a full tank of gas in it or if you squeeze the tank with your legs
Had the same thing..a squeaking/scratching noise on my 09 F model. Came from the front.
Turns out the upper fairing bracket bolts were loose that held it to the steering stem. The whole front moved up and down and back and forth excessively when I hit any bumps. Tightened up the bolts, and viola! No more noise.
I had engine squeaks in exactly the same rev-range ... not to scare you
I just replaced the head, valves, shims and cams....... still there... If you do the shims and it doesn't go .... replace engine its easier
Oil
It started knocking ever so slightly
Checked the oil and it was very low
Went straight to the shop and got some, it seems fine now all noises have gone
But wonder if it has done any damage
Quite possibly damaged. Or you are the luckiest GS500 owner ever.

Well, its now got fresh oil and filter and it sounds normal rides fine soo hope it will be fine
The old filter was very black and crusty and the oil was a nasty black as well
