Hey everyone, is there a way to adjust the brake light switch in a 1992 gs500?
Mine works but the brakes grab before the light turns on, and I'm afraid to lock up the tire if I press hard enough to turn it on. I'm just wondering if there's a way to make the light sensor a little more sensitive so it turns on once I start to hit the brakes. Besides locking up the tire I don't wanna get hit by someone not noticing I'm braking. Thanks for any help.
should be a plastic nut top and bottom to adjust the switch up and down.
Also note that the switch is pulled on by a spring. Spring may have become stretched. You can adjust the switch as mentioned (a plastic nut around it) or tweak the spring.
You should remove the right rear set to do the work. Just the two BIG headed bolts. Then you can get at it and it may become obvious once you see it.
Thanks alot guys, my worries are gone!!!
It does seem the spring is pretty stretched out but it's working a lot better now. I'll pick one up in the near future to get it out of the way.
Added thanks to you adidasguy, you've helped me alot with gettin this grumpy girl going. Soon I'll get a link for yall to see her, I tried last night but my pics are too large haha.
Thanks again guys.
In an after the fact mention ... For those that look this up years down the track... YES REMOVE THE RIGHT REARSET!!!
You can definately adjust the switch WITHOUT removing the REARSET .. But you will have .... Sore fingers!, a bad mood!, exhausted your swear word supply for about a week!, several sets of pliers and stuff laying about or thrown at the fence hard enough to embed into the wood!, the innate desire to never never NEVER have to adjust the bastard again!!....... >:(
So ... In summary ... Remove the right rearset!! .. Your day will be filled with the sweet satisfaction of a simple job done properly! :thumb:
Janx you're totally right. I tried to get in there before say screw this where's my Allen wrenches!!!
