Title: Drowned Carbs after Rejet - HELP!!
Post by: SuzukiCrazy on May 01, 2013, 05:46:57 PM
I am in need of some guidance from the carburetor gods! So I did my rejetting to a 20/62.5/142.5 setting on monday (I have Drop-In K&N, and waiting to install my exhaust.. the 142.5 MJ is technically a little big for my current setting, but is the recommended size on the WIKI for my future set-up..)

Bike ran nice monday, and also yesterday except for a small flat acceleration at around 4-6000 rpm with throttle snapped open. Today, as i was getting to work (hotter day today) the bike started bucking and sputtering as if i was low on Gaz (just filled up on Monday) I had to keep the throttle open to keep it from dying in traffic.. when i stopped I noticed gaz leaking from my airbox drain...

Why is this happening? Please help.. been going around the forums for an answer and i can't get a definite.. can a too large main jet cause this? Did I do something wrong when rejetting? any help is appreciated for a newbie like me.
Also is it possible that by snapping the throttle open a few times to test the jetting I overloaded the carbs?

Thanks for any guidance!

Bike is a 2008 at 15000 Kliks, about 9375 Mi, runs great overall, floater looked perfectly clean and maintained when I opened up the carbs on monday..

My guess is that one of the float needles isn't quite sealing. Check the float heights with a clear tube to make sure they're set to the proper height and sealing.

Thanks, i will check that when i get a chance (probably gonna have to wait till the weekend at this point..)
Quick update, i drained the airbox as best I could and then turned the bike on again, no choke, nothing.. I had to keep throttle open a bit so it wouldn't die and after some spitting and backfiring, the carbs finally emptied out I think, cause after that it went back to running normally. i rode it home and it was fine (did not attempt the snapping open again), but driving normally it looked like it was all normal.

Gonna check the float height anyway just to be safe before riding again.. if it is normal, then I'm pretty sure it's a too large MJ problem.. any thoughts?
