I'm going to replace the front and rear pads on my bike this weekend....(I'm replacing the stock ones with the the metallic ones.)
I noticed the brake rotors have some groves in them. I don't think they are deep enough to warrant replacing them... Do I or should I re-finish the surface of the rotors... ??? How should I do it..??
I have asked dealers & shops: they do not resurface bike rotors.
Get a thickness gauge - the kind like a tiny C clamp and not calipers. Measure the thickness. Stamped on the rotor is minimum thickness. if near that or thinner, get a hardly used OEM rotor from many of the bike breakers. Or you can buy a new one. Do not go cheap: your life depends on your brakes.
A few ridges in your rotor is OK as long as it is not under the minimum thickness. The pads will wear in with a little use.
I can't offer advice on re-surfacing the discs because i dont know anyone that has done that but just a quick bit of info on pads if you havent bought any and didnt already know, GG are softer pads, not as grabby (especially on the rear) and do not wear the discs very quickly, whereas HH are sintered so they contain metal, meaning they are harder, work better but wear the discs out pretty quickly as they contain metal. Some manufacturers recommend HH on the front and GG on the back as GG gives better feel on the back where its not so grabby but never run HH on the back with GG on the front.

Don't resurface the rotors on your bikes. Rotors are a major wear item, and eventually will wear themselves out of spec. Attempting to resurface will massively hasten this process.
Run them as is. The pads will conform to any irregularity in the surface.

I've measured the rotors and they still have a lot left on them.

Go with ceramic disks. You might already have some in your kitchen cupboard. If not, Goodwill sells them across the aisle from the beer mugs.
