Title: Parts whores i need your help
Post by: NjDan on May 09, 2013, 05:09:35 PM
So i lost the tiniest freakin piece on the gs its a little black box that holds the spring which allows the choke to stay engaged
Its located under the controls and held in place by a spring and metal piece which is screwed in to the bottom of the indicatpr side controls
Sorry idk the namw but thats the bwst way i can describe it

yeah .. that thing sucks... its got a wedge shape top... its fallen out of my control lots of times while i been messing with that side...

how'd it fall out.. or more importantly... where did it fall?... garage?... carport? ..

i work on my bike outside under a pergola roof... on brick paving... a few times when i have forgotten its there .. again!... and it falls... i've grabbed a single knob piece of lego shaped like the thingy... and just dropped it gently from same position... do that a few times and you get an idea of where it might bounce off to...

i've spent quite a lot of time just sitting on my milk crate seat beside the bike... 'being calm' and just looking steadily around the area .. under all the edges of stuff... that little thing can get into places you wouldnt think!...

but sorry .. i dont have a spare one... ...... :icon_idea: .... i should get a spare one!!

I got to do that today in Lowes  >:(
Pulled a bolt out of my pocket to see what size threads it had, dropped it, it disappeared.   :technical:
Found it after about 4 minutes on my hands and knees, everyone else in the store giving me funny looks  :whisper:

lol... yeah... done that too!!!...

when i have small and or fiddly bits to check now... i use one of these

not this one exactly but same kinda thing...

lets me show the 'small part' to shop assistants.... lets me measure up fairly well with 'new' one... means i dont have to go fishing around all the other crap in my pockets to get the thing to start with .. lets me keep both hands free for searching.. and i dont get the old one mixed with the new one.. or drop the old one into the box of new ones!!!

felt a little weird first time... cos a mate gave me one and said try this out.... but .. its kinda funny now... i see other blokes wandering the bolt/washer/nut/whatever sections... they see the lanyard and clear pocket with 'tiny parts' inside... and they get this almost jealous/OMG/lightbulb look on their faces.... and you just know they are 'gonna get me one of them' .. lol

tut tut... clean that sucker up!!...

did you check beside the tyres?... like right under the edges?.... the little widget never goes too far... maybe 3 feet?...

thats if it dropped straight outta the hole... or did you already have it out and on a bench which then got knocked?...

it will be there... look around from a few different spots/angles/heights...

oh and if you are wearing shoes/boots with deep tread... look in there too.. found it there once!!  :thumb:

Is one of them enough?

I use small plastic GLAD or similar bowls for stuff. A box of assorted sizes is cheap at Costco and they have lids. When you're done with them, gasoline will make them go away (guess how I know that).
