Title: Where can I find a new oil filter cover stud?
Post by: reek on May 12, 2013, 05:24:34 PM
I was changing the oil today on my 1990 GS500e and everything seemed fine until I took it off the center stand and it pissed oil everywhere. I didn't get a chance to take it back apart but the bottom nut won't tighten now, which leads me to believe i've either broken or stripped the stud. Either way, it's gotta go. I saw the youtube video from BaltimoreGS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aE_bntq_iE) and I'm pretty confident I can fix this myself. Question is, where can I find a replacement stud? I've searched on amazon, ebay, and general google searches and I can't seem to locate an oem stud.

You could use a long set screw from a hardware store in a pinch. I would think any suzuki dealer could get something.

Set screws are the ones without a head on them, just a threaded rod...in case you were wondering.

OEM is only a couple dollars. Any Suzuki dealer can get you one or may have it in stock.
Until then you can use a long bolt.

Do not tighten the oil cover super tight.
Snug is enough. Remember there is an o-ring on the cover that makes the seal. No need to tighten it down like an engine top end.
