I just picked up an '09 GS500F last week and I've been having issues with the bike stalling when I come to complete stops. For example, as I was approaching a stop sign the other day, I downshifted from 3rd to 1st with the clutch disengaged the whole time. By the time I had come to a complete stop (with the clutch still disengaged), the bike had stalled out on me. At a standstill and fully warmed up, it idles at the recommended 1200 rpm (maybe slightly below, but no lower than 1100rpm). The bike's got just over 8k miles on it, so I'm pretty sure I'm the problem, not the bike. Sometimes, I adjust for the problem by giving it a bit of throttle while the clutch is disengaged (to get it to hold idle, that is). I don't think this is a practical, long term solution, though, so does anyone have any thoughts?
give the idle screw a turn or 2 in so the idle raises to maybe 1500-1800?.... see if it still wants to stall... if so then ask the carb guru heads?
i had mine adjusted to about the 1100-1200 level and it would do that sometimes... raised it to about 1500 and zero dramas... its not really that much and still doesnt sound squidly ...
maybe i have other issues because of where i have mine set... but it runs fine all the rest of the time...
could be variations in gas 'bang-a-bility' too maybe?
Old gas can do some odd things, so make sure you have fresh fuel.
Otherwise, if the bike has sat for any extended period of time, your pilot jets could be partially clogged.

I have a similar problem that just emerged as well - same deal - picked up '05, was fine for 9 very short rides, now it starts at fairly low revs and then dies once warmed up (2 mins maybe) - choke or throttle don't even seem to hold up the revs at the end.
What would be the likely causes of this issue and is it a DIY or take-to-shop project (and how much would it cost in the shop)?
Personally, I always had my GS500F and my Ninja 250 idle at 1500 Rpm, but that's just me :dunno_black:
