So i dropped my bike for the first time. When i picked it up it was off. Brought it back to my house and found that the starter relay was blown. I replaced it put the key to the on position and it blew again. I checked the resistance of the starter relay solenoid and it was zero so i replaced it thinking it was the issue. Finally put it in today with a fresh 20amp fuse and turned the bike to the on position and the fuse blew again. Any ideas what could be the issue? I usually pretty good and car and bike repairs except when it comes to electrical issues. The bike in question is a 1990 gs500e.
Which side was the drop?
You have a short somewhere. Quite possibly in the headlight bucket, as that's where everything meets.
Possible the front brake wire is shorting to the frame. The clutch switch shorting to frame could cause it, as +12 goes through it, to the start button then on to the starter relay.
Get out your Haynes or Clymer manual for the wiring diagram, and start examining the wiring for wires shorting to the frame.
I figured it out last night after looking at the bike for a while and taken bits off here and there. There was a short but nothing that would show up on the wire diagrams which was the tricky bit. The bike fell on the right side but the guy who owned the bike before me put lights on over the reflectors on the forks and he drilled through the reflector and the wire went through the metal bracket the mounts the reflector to the fork and when the bike went down it shifted the reflector bracket slightly so that the metal bracket pinched the wire which fed power to the light whenever the key was to the on position. This is where my short was. I removed the lights from both sides and the bike is back up and running.
Now that i mention the reflectors being drilled through and now cracked does anyone have any spare fork reflectors?

Reflectors ? throw them away. They gouge the fork dust seals @ full compression.

Some members choose to replace them with Harley stick-on fork reflectors... Don't have a link at the moment, but they are adidasguy approved... so they should be as good as stock or better :dunno_black:

They do that of they are bent in. If they are straight, they never touch the forks or the fork dust caps.
To find the harley reflectors, go ebay "harley fork reflector""
Usually about $12-$14 a pair. I think they look better than the stock reflector.
