Hello
I'm sure I've seen a post here, I think from Adidasguy, with pics showing the easiest way to mount the motor into the frame, but I'm having a difficult time finding that post. Would someone be so kind and point me in the right direction?
Thanks, all
Take off the left side - everything, side cover, rotor etc if you can.
Take off the valve cover and camshafts if you can, but do not take off the cover and leave the camshafts on.
Swear like crazy ...
Cool.

It can go in or out in 10 minutes with a floor jack and some fiddling. No need to remove anything from the engine - not even the oil cooler!

Its never gone in easy or come out easy on any of the 3-4 I have stuffed in/pulled out.
That parts cleaning tubmler adidas is something only you will buy. Most of us ... well we just leave em dirty, cos in 5 mins it will get dirty again.

I used adidasguy's method with relative ease. Putting the engine in was actually easier than getting it out, but I had an extra pair of hands to help me reinstall it.
So, I mounted the engine last night, BY MYSELF!!!
The first time I did this, over a year ago, I had my son help me, but we did it completely wrong, stuck it in, and it took us a long while to dislodge it and finally mount it.
Last night I followed Adidasguy and others' suggestion, placed it atop my jack, keeping it balanced with one hand, while operating the jack with the other. I slowly slid it under the frame, perpendicular to the bike, front first. Then I started lifting it a bit and rotating it until the rear top mounting hole lined up with the holes in the frame. It was an awesome feeling being able to do this task alone. My neighbor and my son were in standby, but I ended up not having to bother them.
Getting the GS500 motor out is like working a Chinese puzzle box. The Factory Shop Manual says to simply lower it out. Yah right. I found that the motor has to be pivoted clockwise 90 degrees while under the frame and then it will come out the right side. Floor jack is the ticket. I assume it's going back in the same way.

the jack method is probably the easiest way. But I've seen it done with ease by the almighty werase643 in like 10 minutes!
Got my engine in in a rather unorthadox manner, Bike was held tilted towards the left (sidestand side) while the complete engine was 'precisely' held in place by a large wooden log. By then swearing more than a drunken Scotsman you can simply 'tease' the engine into the frame by un-tilting the frame towards the engine!
Bush mechanic sheer brilliance !! :thumb:  :D
