Title: FS: '04 F parts, ZG Windscreen, Seat, some fairings
Post by: GI_JO_NATHAN on May 22, 2013, 08:59:30 PM
So long story short, my wife wrecked the GS. She's mostly ok. Broken left ankle is the worst of it, despite wearing moto specific boots.

So now it's getting a very reluctant E conversion.
I will also reluctantly be selling it once I get it road worthy.

The only really issue is that I'm headed out of town for a couple months leaving next Tuesday. So If you want something grab it quick, or you'll have to wait a little while.

I prefer paypal for payment.

Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Do the GSXR passenger pegs bolt right on or does one have to do modifications to get them to fit? Thanks

Yeah needs modification.

Edit: Sorry for the short answer earlier. Was on the phone.
The stock brackets need to be cut off, and some sort of plate welded on to bolt them to.
I've seen people cut the stock brackets off, and then just drill through the sub frame and bolt them on.
I wouldn't recommend that if anyone will be riding on the back.

Thanks Slack. She's being a good sport. Says she'll ride again, just maybe not in the twisties...

Good luck on the sale of parts.

I have a curious question and I push my wife to be more familiar on bikes.. was she alone when it happened and had to call for help or was a friend or yourself around? If you feel like answering that. Helps me decide how much reassurance I want to give to someone that didnt ride bikes their whole life.

Glad shes in good shape overall.

Thanks,

We were actually on a group ride. I was in the front on my SV, her behind me, and then five more bikes.
It was her first time riding in the twisties, and she was really nervous. She almost backed out of going, but decided to go ahead at the last minute. I purposely tried not to talk her into going, I didn't want her to feel pressured. I even offered for her to ride pillion with me.

I don't like riding in the front, but always end up there. Because no one else does either, and I normally know the area better.
I was trying really hard to not go too fast, or too slow. We were the only sport type bikes there. Had two cruisers, a fury, and two Spyders along with us. I told her that I wouldn't do anything her GS couldn't do, so if she felt in trouble just lean more, and try to get her upper body as much to the inside as she could on the tight fast ones.

Basically it seems that the turn before she wrecked freaked her out because it was kind of a weird one. So when she came into the next one I think she was too stiff.  She said she all the sudden realized she was gonna hit the guard rail. So she grabbed a hand full of brake and slammed it down on the left side.

Most of the gear did it's job. I learned a few things.
Mesh gloves have there draw backs. my wife lost some skin on the top of her left ring finger. Top of the glove was perfectly fine, it looks like the glove rotated and the thin part that is normally between your fingers for ventilation tore right through.

I'm really glad I gave her my Arai. I felt a lot better with her in it than her old beat up Scorpion.

She was wearing regular jeans, and ended up needing six stitches in her left knee.
I feel really bad about that. I've wanted to get real riding pants for some time now, I just don't like buying her gear when she's not there, so I've put it off. Two days before the ride I picked up a pair for me and decided to go ahead and get her some. They were out of her size...

I beat myself up a little over her ankle getting broken as well. I wished I'd gotten her better boots than the Bilt Sport Touring ones she was wearing.
Then when I got the gear home an looked at it, I realized I don't think many boots would have done any better.
The only explanation I could come up with is that when her foot hit he ground it twisted her foot around backwards.
The out side of her boot doesn't have a scratch on it. But the inside is torn forward..

Sorry tried to turn this one sideways, but PhotoBucket is acting up.

Her mesh Joe Rocket jacket did pretty good. She got a surprisingly bad amount of like carpet burn on her left forearm from sliding in the jacket. Better than road rash I'm sure. Sucks the EMT's felt the need to cut it off anyways so it's ruined.

More pics uploading soon.

I keep telling myself it could have been a lot worse. This is why we wear the gear.
Thanks.

Wow thanks for the reply It would be a long time until I took the wife to real twisties due to experience.

Glad to see she is smiling, and glad it mostly worked out.

Thanks for detail here. I would presume that could be its own successful thread even if it helped a few less prepared riders to realize what protection gear does provide.

I'm away from the parts for a little while.
But I'll see what I can figure out on shipping.
