I wouldn't worry too much about your gas tank yet. Do you have some kind of inline fuel filter? That would catch any rust particles from making it into your carbs.
The oil leak is another problem - you'll need to find out exactly where it's leaking from first. Clean all around the area, let it dry, then throw some baby powder around to the clean metal. Ride the bike for a bit and see where the oil is leaking from.

Your tank's worst rust is in the crap pocket BTW. You cant see it ... maybe with one of em usb cameras ... maybe.
Cool.

The oil leak is probably due to a loose connection at the cable attachment point. Check to see if it's inserted and tightened fully if so and it still leaks, there are small o-rings in the assembly that can be had for cheap at the dealership. It's a five-minute job at most. I had the same leak on mine but the PO supplied them with the bike upon sale. Sorry, but I don't have part numbers.

Crap pockets = The parts of the tank just above the front edge of the side covers on the 89-00 bike.
That part is still there on the 01-13 bikes, just that the side covers are not that long so they dont come that far forward.
Cool.
