Hi Everyone
Great to be a part of the owner's group. Just bought a 2002 with 11k. Got what I thought was a very good deal. Bike appears in nice shape. Haven't ridden in a few years, last bike was an '01 Suzuki VL1500. Decided to move back to a smaller upright since my riding is more zipping around town now and then, and my son is learning to ride.
Perhaps someone can direct me to some information on an idling (spelling?) issue I am having. Bike had sat for a while and it was very unresponsive to the throttle, bogged down when accelerating. Took the carbs out and cleaned the float bowl and jets. In general things looked pretty good. Upon restarting it ran 90% better. No hesitation, good acceleration. However once I stop and let it sit the RPMs begin to climb up to 4k while idling. Like it has a mind of its own. I think I have the idle adjustment as low as it can go. When it sits and idles before I take off it is idling at about 1500. I am not well versed in carbs but from some reading I am wondering if it could be the floats?? I am not sure how they would cause this but other threads make this suggestion. The little gaskets on the top of the diaphragm area are there and appear OK. Any leads would be appreciated
Thanks :)
Most people would suggest vacuum leak from vacuum line/carb boots etc...
My bike has the same problem, after warming up and riding around for a while, when I come to a stop and put it in nuetral it will idle at 3000 rpm constantly. I believe it has something to do with the carbs, so I just want to spray some carb cleaner directly in there or put some seafoam in with the first tank of gas I have after cleaning the inside of the tank.
got the petcock vaccum tube back on the left (unplugged) carb?
