Hey There was a old post about white guages. Someway to convert them. Does anyone have the URL, or was it someone's photo shop work. In any case I'd like to see it and try it.

And SuperDials (http://www.superdials.com/custom.htm) sells faces, but none for the GS500. They will do custom work however.
But, JeffD said that from his experience, they would be a serious pain to replace.

Suzuki VX800 guages would work - they are white faced and appear to have the exact same mounting bracket as the GS500... a direct replacement!!!
I've been on the hunt for VX800 guages for a while now... good luck...

The hardest part is opening and closing the guages... and I got that down to a science. I'll just need to get the right vinyl/acrylic material painted/printed/silk screened up and I should be able to.
VX guages will fit and work however they are very very hard to find and their rim is silver... wont work with my black dash really.

last summer i put blue LEDs in place of the lamps in the clocks... it looks great!!! I was gonna post a pic, but the problem is the digicam makes them look whiter than they really are... but its cool.... don't know about doing white faces, but the LEDs are almost a must :thumb: :thumb: (also tried orange and red, but I liked blue the best; matches my bike)
Yes blue is great for the guage lights. Here is a hint... dont buy zenon blue lights... they are like 3 times more $$$ and they actually glow white. Buy 194 B or 194 G bulbs. If the dash itself was white face I think it will looks soooooo coooooool.

dont use bulbs, use LEDS (like 3 of them) w/ resistor and try to get widest emission angle possible... problem is bright blue leds have llike 15 degree viewing angle (maybe they have better now...) so it takes a little bit of playing to get them to illuminate everything uniformly... they're like a buck each, and you'll never need to replace 'em once their setup...
I seem to remember he VX800 tach reading short on RPMs (only reading to like 10 grand)...correct me if I'm wrong...
That wouldn't surprise me since it's a 800 cc V-twin.

It's very vague but if you count the markings you only get to 9 or 10 grand.
So, the consensus is that the VX800 tach and speedo won't work? Or just the tach? I'd like to figure it out before I really go hunting for a set to find out they don't work out.
I'm not sitting in front of my bike right now, but what does the GS redline at?
Maybe I'll just find a VX speedo and ditch the tach altogether...

that gauge face Pablo has on his site. is there anybody who has seen a KM/h version of it. the one there is MP/h with very small km/h markings, but otherwise pretty cool
A friend of mine makes white face gauges for a bunch of different models.... I'm sure I can get him to make some -if there's enough genuine interest...

You'd have to open the gauges up to install the covers yourselves...... Srinath seems to have that down tho ( patience and a small screwdriver??)...
I'll talk to him again soon.... We'd just need a donor gauge set ( actually i have spare set.......).....

Well patience and a small screw driver to open yes, to close... its a short thick walled pipe, with that rubberised tool handle coating on it (and you can use news paper or other paper instead as well), of the same ID as the OD of the guages ring, another pipe which will slip on the guage body from the bottom but not over the ring. So you basically start off by filling the gap between the opened ring and guage body with little silicone or some thin gasket maker, then peen it over by hand as uniformly as you can by sitting it on some news paper on a wooden table, and press in the guage as tight as you can while using a sorta drift punch to fold it over in a few spots. Then peen it over in a few more spots. Its a 2 person job, so dont try it alone. Then put it in the outer pipe, place the smaller pipe over it, and bash it till the thing looks like it did when it started out. In absence of the 2 fittings... you might be able to use like a short piece of flat bar and bash it all around a number of times till its closed up tight. The pipes just let it look a lot better at the end of it, but once installed, its invisible anyway.
