Title: Ignition? Starter Problems? Clueless in Brooklyn
Post by: Tim Berg on May 28, 2013, 05:22:13 PM
Hi, I'm new here.  I just bought a 2001 GS500, new rider (please forgive me)  Great bike.  Very happy with it.  Although many would consider it light (381 lbs.) as a newbie, I wasn't use to it and dropped the bike several times.  The last time I rode it, I had to jump start the battery and it was fine. I rode it for 2 hours.  trying to park it alas I f&#$#*$& dropped it. Now it wont start.  Nothing, no clicking nada.  I got a new battery, the headlights turn signals & everything else turn on. In neutral, or 1st with clutch down, again nothing not even a clicking sound.  Any ideas? I'm far from a shop and don't want to pay for a tow, unless the starter is absolutely shot.  Is it possible that I blew a fuse? jerked a wire?  I'd appreciate any advice.  Thank you in advance

Kill switch?

There's only one fuse (on an unmodified GS), so if your lights work it isn't the problem.

Check all the obvious first... (like the kill switch is off still) Then it could be a safety sensor broke. There's one in the clutch lever. Did you bend the clutch lever when it was dropped? I think there is one on the kick stand... I forget. Some bikes make it so it turns off when the kick stand is down and you put it in gear.

I'm in Newark right now.
I plan to go into the city to the adidas stores Thursday. How far are you from 136 Wooster Street or Broadway+Houston?

Glad to help if I can get there. I'll have to get out my foreign visa and head to Brooklyn!
Can you meet me at the adidas store?
