It's an '09 500f. It's my first bike, and it fit like a glove. :D
However, now that I've had it a while - I've noticed several things about it that I don't like (and had I noticed before I bought it, would have haggled the price more). These things are cosmetic, so I'm thinking about just making it a naked bike - so I'm up for suggestions.
1. Left rear fairing/cowl/frame cover is held on with wireties. (I was pissed to find this out, it never occurred to me to look for this when buying my first bike, oh well live and learn). Are there any options other than replacing this part with the same, but not broken, part?
2. Right front fairing now has a hole in it (this is due to me dropping it at a stop sign... stupid rookie mistake). Thinking about just pulling front left and right fairings off. Have any of you done this and left the center fairing on? Maybe add a belly pan instead of the side fairings?
3. The bike has been painted all black (I actually liked this), but after replacing the mirrors it looks like the the center front fairing isn't in perfect alignment with the mounting bracket. I wouldn't mind taking all of this off, but would like some sort of windshield/deflector to help with long interstate rides (my commute is about 30 miles, most of which is on interstates).
So there you have it, I'm open to any and all suggestions. Well... most, let's keep it clean, ok? ;)
i seen fairing on ebay for cheap, keep an eye on that. if you leave the cowl and pull off the side fairing then it looks like sv650.
I checked ebay and have an offer in for an '06 right faring. Here's hoping the offer is accepted. It's an all black bike, so some the fairing + sanding and some paint/clear coat cans from autozone and hopefully I'll be back in black.
:dunno_black: where pics??
Pics of the hole in the fairing? What, you want to revel in my misery? ;) j/k
I'll try and get some up tomorrow evening (won't be home until after dark tonight, black bike + low light = bad pics)
So.... finally realized I never uploaded a pic of the damage.
It's been a while, and I have a replacement fairing (just need to paint it to match), but I'm kind of tempted to leave it as is for now. It doesn't really bother me, and I have plans to do a custom paint job at some point in the future - so I may just save the fairing for that.
Anyway, here's a pic of the damage:

I dont see anything??? Time to ride!
Ha! yeah, the new kind of wore off, so I really don't mind the hole in the fairing. When I'm riding, I can't see or notice it - so it will stay as-is for now. :icon_mrgreen:
