Hey guys! I got my '08 gs500f a few months ago, and looking online for a few cool things to do i found this forum. Gotta say, its great! I've decided to take my fairings off of my F model, so i can repair the scratches/ cracks from the previous owner, and thought id start a forum so i can keep track of my work and get ideas from you people!
So anyways, here's the bike in its current state, untouched by me!
Its hard to tell in this picture, but theres a few scratches, and a piece around the front signals on both sides broke out so theyre wobbly.
So far ive bought universal headlight mounting clips that go on the fork tubes -- plan to paint them black
i bought new turn signals because the old ones are kind of bulky, and scratched up
im just waiting on my fake carbon-fibre mirrors from ebay and ill be ready to go!

i am in the same boat as you! my light brackets are on order and should be here wednesday. nothing wrong with my fairings just plan on making it naked.
Welcome to the site and congrats on the bike
thanks guys! i finally got my mirrors today, took all the shiz off, and trying to put the new stuff on.
ive encountered a problem though, im not sure how im going to get the headlight on the brackets..
ill take another look now and see if i can come up with any ideas but any of yours would be appreciated too!
and Zmerica let me know how it goes when you get your brackets in!
my uncle had just mentioned today about the brackets on the head light. his only idea was grind them off, only thing with that is you wont be able to put it back together with fairings unless you get a new head light. and i surely will keep you updated, hopefully next weekend i all the parts will be here to start stripping it
yeah i thought of that too but i want to be able to put it back on without buying a new one... mines all stripped so i dont really wanna put it back together!
im thinking maybe ill heat the bracket and bend the ends like 90 degrees inward so that i can use one of the original mounting holes with the brackets?
itll look kinda funny with all the tabs hanging off the side but maybe i can cover them somehow
It would be simpler and look better to get a stock 7" round headlight and a pair of the stock GS500 headlight brackets.
you've got a good point..
i have no intentions of putting my fairings back on ever so im just going to cut the tabs off or something like that. already ordered the new fork mount brackets and keeping the stock head light
